Xi'an Conservatory of Music is a full-time general college that trains music and art professionals. It is one of the 11 independent music colleges in the country and the only independent music college in the Northwest. It is a "domestic first-class discipline" construction college in Shaanxi Province. The school was founded in October 1949, the same age as the Republic. Its predecessor was the "Northwest People's Art School" founded by Marshal He Long in the Jinsui Border Region in 1948. It was born to train literary and artistic cadres to adapt to the strategy of liberating the Northwest. In 1949, it moved to Xi'an with the People's Liberation Army across the Yellow River and was named "Art College of Northwest Military and Political University"; in 1950, it was renamed "Northwest Art College"; in 1953, it was adjusted to "Northwest Art College"; in 1956, the school's music and fine arts departments were established separately, and the music department was converted into "Xi'an Music College"; in 1957, the school was relocated to its current location on Chang'an Middle Road, Yanta District, south of Xi'an; in 1960, it was officially named Xi'an Conservatory of Music, and was renamed Shaanxi Art College before the reform and opening up; in 1980, with the approval of the State Council, the school resumed the establishment of Xi'an Conservatory of Music. In the nearly 75 years of development, the school has been working hard and singing, adhering to the school motto of "enlightening virtue and educating, music and music are perfect", and has accumulated the school-running philosophy of "harmony but difference, excellence", and has sent more than 30,000 high-quality music artists and music educators to the northwest, the whole country and even the world. A large number of famous composers, educators, singers and conductors active in the domestic and foreign music circles have emerged, such as Zhao Jiping, Lu Rirong, Qiao Jianzhong, He Hui, Yan Huichang, and Lv Jihong. They have established a complete higher music education system for Shaanxi and the northwest region, and have made outstanding contributions to promoting national music art, popularizing world excellent music, and prospering my country's music and cultural undertakings. It is known as the "cradle of music talents in the northwest", the base for researching and spreading Shaanxi music culture, and the center of national film and television music creation. The school is located in Xi'an, a world-famous historical and cultural city, with the towering Big Wild Goose Pagoda to the east, the starting point of the Silk Road to the west, the south gate of the ancient city of Chang'an to the north, and the Daxingshan Temple to the south. The school covers a total area of 89,548.27 square meters, with a building area of about 289,000 square meters. There are 5,011 full-time students and 620 faculty members. There are 421 full-time teachers, including 7 experts who enjoy the "Special Allowance of the State Council", 2 members of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Music and Dance Discipline and Art Theory Discipline of the Ministry of Education, 2 "Excellent Experts of the Ministry of Culture", 5 "Provincial Experts with Outstanding Contributions", 8 experts in the Provincial High-level Talent Program, 2 Provincial "Sanqin Scholars" Innovation Teams, 7 Provincial "Three-Five Talents", "Humanities Talents", and "Six Ones" Talents, 10 Provincial Teaching Masters, 7 Provincial College "Young Outstanding Talents", 16 "Second-level Professors", and 9 "Third-level Professors". At present, the school has 10 teaching units, including the Composition Department, the School of Humanities, the Piano Department, the Orchestra Department, the National Instrumental Music Department, the Vocal Music Department, the Modern Music College, the Music Education College, the Dance College, and the Marxism College. There are also direct (affiliated) units such as the Northwest National Music Research Center, the "Belt and Road" Music Culture Research Institute, the Library, the Art Center, the Art Museum, the Affiliated Secondary Music School, the Asset Management Co., Ltd., the Training and Examination Center, and the Shaanxi Symphony Orchestra. There are also university student art practice groups such as the Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Wind Orchestra, the National Orchestra, the Chorus, the Xi'an Drum Art Troupe, the Qin Zheng Art Troupe, and the Youth Art Troupe. The "Northwest National Music Research Center" is a key research base for philosophy and social sciences in Shaanxi Province (colleges and universities). The school currently has one first-level discipline of art and two professional fields of music and dance. Among them, the "Chang'an School of Music Research" under the "Music and Dance Studies" is a provincial characteristic discipline. There are 12 undergraduate majors, including 3 national first-class majors and 7 provincial first-class majors. 12 second-level disciplines with master's degree authorization points cover all 84 professional directions of the school. In terms of curriculum construction, there are 1 national-level quality course and 10 provincial-level quality courses. The school has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the first prize of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award; the gold medal of the Verdi International Vocal Competition; the special prize of the Italian Viola Competition; the first prize of the International Double Oboe Instrument Association Competition; the gold medal of the China Music Golden Bell Award for Bel Canto Singing and the gold medal of the chorus; the China Wenhua Award; the China Drama Plum Blossom Award; the China Music Golden Record Award; the gold medal of the CCTV TV Singer Grand Prix for Bel Canto Singing and the silver medal of the chorus; the gold medal of the CCTV Piano and Violin Competition; the bronze medal of the CCTV TV Dance Grand Prix; the first and second prizes of the Chinese National Instrumental Folk Music Group Performance of the Ministry of Culture and many other important awards. In the past five years, the number of people who have participated in social amateur music training and grading through the school has reached 380,000, which has greatly promoted the healthy development of social music education. The school attaches great importance to artistic practice and international music and cultural exchanges, and has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 60 universities, scientific research institutions and academic groups in more than 20 countries and regions. The school has been successively rated as "Advanced Grassroots Party Organization in the City", "Advanced Unit of Democratic Management", "Advanced Unit of Key Discipline Construction", "Model School of School Governance by Law", and "Provincial Civilized Campus" in Shaanxi Province. The school has always adhered to the service and development path of being based in Shaanxi, serving the Northwest, facing the whole country, and going to the world. In the course of running schools for many years, it has always adhered to the party's education policy and the direction of socialist school-running, insisted on characteristic development, high-level construction, and international vision, and unswervingly followed the path of characteristic school-running. Adhering to the inheritance and promotion of excellent traditional culture, it has accumulated and formed a school-running tradition represented by the music culture of Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang Dynasties, the red music culture of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region, the music culture of the Northwest region, and the Qin style music culture.
