Xi'an University of Arts and Sciences is a full-time undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in 2003, hosted by the Xi'an Municipal Government, co-built by the province and the city, and recruiting students nationwide. The history of the school can be traced back to the Shaanxi Normal School established in 1903. Its predecessor was the Guanzhong Academy, the highest institution of learning in Shaanxi during the Ming and Qing dynasties, which was founded in 1609. Later, it was merged by Xi'an University, Xi'an Normal College, Xi'an Education College, Xi'an Preschool Normal School and Xi'an Normal School. In 2014, the school became a pilot school for transformation and development in Shaanxi Province and a station-setting unit for the joint training demonstration workstation for postgraduates; in 2017, it became a provincial new master's degree project construction unit; in 2018, it was approved as a "provincial first-class applied undergraduate college" construction unit; and won the Xi'an City Annual Target Responsibility Assessment Excellent Unit for nine consecutive years. The school currently has three campuses: Gaoxin, Guanzhong Academy and Taibai, with a school building area of 500,000 square meters. The High-tech Campus is the main campus, integrating classical gardens and modern architectural styles, with ancient and modern styles, elegant and unique; the Academy Campus is the original site of Guanzhong Academy, which is one of the few academies in the country that has been completely preserved and still plays an educational role. It has a continuous cultural heritage and is known as the "living academy". The academy is full of towering ancient trees and beautiful scenery. The great scholar Feng Congwu of the Ming Dynasty described it as "pine wind, bright moon, birds singing and flowers fragrant, which makes people feel like dancing in the spring breeze"; Taibai Campus is now the location of the School of Continuing Education. The school implements the school-running philosophy of serving lifelong education, carries out higher education continuing education and non-academic education, and has made positive contributions to serving the regional economy and industry development. The school adheres to the cultural connotation of Guanzhong Academy of "being practical and honest, respecting truth and practicing", promotes the school motto of "valuing morality, studying hard, practicing and being noble", adheres to the school-running orientation of "building a distinctive high-level applied urban university" and the service orientation of "based in Xi'an, facing Shaanxi and serving the society", and has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents, such as Fu Hao, former vice minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wei Jie, professor of Tsinghua University, Dou Erxiang, professor of Peking University, Kang Zhen, professor of Beijing Normal University, Bai Yuguo, a famous photographer, and Tao Jiangang, the most beautiful grassroots college graduate in the country. The school continues the century-old teacher education and has trained more than 30,000 excellent kindergarten and primary school teachers for Shaanxi. It is known as the "cradle of kindergarten and primary school teachers in Shaanxi". The school currently has more than 14,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 90 jointly trained graduate students. There are more than 1,100 faculty and staff, including more than 400 full-time teachers with the title of associate professor or above, and more than 90% of them have a master's degree or above. Three academicians of the two academies were hired externally, 12 chief experts of disciplines were flexibly introduced; 15 people were awarded honorary titles such as provincial famous teachers, excellent teachers, and model teachers; 16 provincial teacher ethics demonstration teams and teaching and research innovation teams; 2 provincial Qin Chuangyuan "scientist + engineer" teams; 6 provincial science and technology innovation leaders and young science and technology stars. The school adheres to the discipline and professional positioning of "excellence in normal education, strength in literature and history, specialization in engineering and management, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines". There are 14 secondary colleges and 1 continuing education college. It covers nine major disciplines including literature, science, engineering, education, management, economics, law, history, and art, and 49 undergraduate majors. At present, it has 1 national-level maker space, 1 first-class professional construction site, 6 first-class courses; 16 provincial-level first-class professional construction sites and key disciplines, 10 experimental teaching demonstration centers and talent training model innovation experimental areas; 70 high-level courses such as provincial-level quality courses, quality resource sharing courses, ideological and political demonstration courses, characteristic online courses, and first-class courses; 1 national teaching achievement award, 27 provincial-level education and teaching achievement awards, and 44 education and teaching reform research projects. The school is deeply integrated into the construction of the Qinchuangyuan platform and is one of the 16 governing universities of the Shaanxi University Technology Transfer Alliance. It has been successively recognized as a pilot university in the National Comprehensive Innovation Reform Pilot Zone, a Shaanxi Provincial Demonstration Base for the Introduction of Foreign Intelligence, a Xi'an Science and Technology Achievement On-site Transformation Demonstration University, and a Xi'an International Science and Technology Cooperation Base. The school's achievements and technology transfer center has been recognized as a provincial and municipal technology transfer demonstration institution. The school has built 1 Shaanxi Education, Science and Technology Talent Innovation Consortium, 2 provincial key laboratories, and 2 "four subjects and one joint" engineering technology research centers; 1 provincial key research base for philosophy and social sciences, 1 provincial popular science education base, and 1 provincial social science popularization base. The university insists on serving Xi'an as its own responsibility. According to Xi'an's strategy of accelerating the construction of a national dual-center city, it closely connects with the construction needs of Xi'an's key industrial chains, builds an ecosystem of "interaction between government, school and enterprise, integration of production, learning, research and application", and continuously promotes the integrated development of school and city. The government, school and enterprise jointly build Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Surface Engineering and Remanufacturing, Shaanxi Provincial Joint Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence, Shaanxi Provincial School-Enterprise Joint Research Center for Intelligent Equipment for Trenchless Horizontal Directional Survey, Shaanxi Aerospace Breeding Engineering Technology Research Center, Chang'an History and Culture Research Center, Shaanxi Jiusan Society Political Participation and Consultation Research Center, Xi'an Basic Education Teacher Development Research Center, Xi'an University and Primary and Secondary School Ideological and Political Courses Integrated Construction Guidance Center, Xi'an Qinling Research Institute, Xi'an Satellite Remote Sensing Service Center, Xi'an Integrity Research Center, Xi'an Silk Road Economic Belt Education and Cultural Exchange Research Center, Xi'an Economic and Social Development Research Center, Huawei Kunpeng Industrial College and more than 30 other research institutions; Xi'an Cadre Education and Training Liberal Arts College Base, Xi'an Integrity Education and Training Base, Xi'an Entrepreneurship Incubation Demonstration Base and more than 10 other scientific and educational platforms. In addition, 9 professional societies, including the China Wang Wei Research Society, Shaanxi Nanotechnology Society, Shaanxi Botanical Society Orchid Branch, Xi'an Economic Mathematics Society, Xi'an Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Society, and Xi'an Film and Television Criticism Society, are affiliated with our school. The school adheres to open education and conducts exchanges and cooperation with more than 50 universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, etc. on student academic education, overseas internships, teacher training, etc. There are more than 40 international students from Thailand, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Through the joint construction of the "Belt and Road College", overseas internship bases, and the construction of the Sino-Thai Cultural Education Cloud Platform, we have established extensive and in-depth cooperation with universities, colleges, and primary and secondary schools in Thailand. The "Xi'an International Symposium on History and Culture" and the "International Forum on Language and Culture Research" hosted by the school have formed a good academic response at home and abroad.
