Xiangtan Institute of Technology is located in Jiuhua Economic Development Zone, Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, and is the central node of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Great Hexi Science and Technology Innovation Corridor. It is the first general undergraduate college in Hunan Province approved by the Ministry of Education to complete the transformation of an independent college, and is a joint training unit of the Geely Postdoctoral Research Station of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The predecessor of Xiangtan Institute of Technology was the Beijin College of Hunan Technology and Business University, which was established in 2001. At the beginning of its establishment, the college was located on the beautiful Xiangjiang River and in the historical ancient city of Beijin City, Changsha, which was a vassal state during the Western Han Dynasty. In 2018, with the care and support of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, and in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education, Hunan Technology and Business University and Geely Group jointly organized the Beijin College of Hunan Technology and Business University. In 2019, the Xiangtan Campus of Beijin College was completed and officially opened in September, welcoming the first batch of freshmen. In June 2020, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the Beijin College of Hunan Technology and Business University was transformed into an independent general undergraduate school and renamed Xiangtan Institute of Technology, which is a private non-profit general college. Xiangtan Institute of Technology is planned to cover an area of 1,200 acres. It currently has seven major disciplines: science, engineering, economics, management, law, literature, and art. It offers 38 undergraduate majors, nearly 10,000 students, and recruits students from 17 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across the country. Xiangtan Institute of Technology attaches great importance to the comprehensive quality education of students. In the fall of 2021, the college established Tanzhou Academy to study, research and spread Hunan culture and explore the college system model of student management. Tanzhou Academy implements the CFAP application-oriented talent training model, strengthens general education, and uses excellent traditional culture to cultivate pillars of the new era who can take on major responsibilities. Standing at the historical starting point of the new era, the college will insist on putting moral education first, take serving the real economy and serving the "two centenary goals" as its strategic goals, learn from the operating experience and management model of outstanding global universities such as California Institute of Technology and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and fully connect with strategic emerging industries with the characteristics of industry-education integration. Focus on "new engineering" and "new business", keep a close eye on the forefront of industry and technology, and strive to build a new type of international applied university with a strong quality brand, outstanding scientific research capabilities, and excellent academic reputation.
