Xiangtan Medical Vocational and Technical College is a full-time public medical and health vocational college sponsored by the Xiangtan Municipal People's Government and recruiting students from all over the country. Its history can be traced back to the Guangde Senior Nursing Vocational School founded by the American Presbyterian Church in 1915. Former Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice Premier Li Lanqing and other party and state leaders have visited the school in person. The school currently has two campuses, with a clinical college, a nursing college, a medical technology college, a medical equipment and management college, a Marxism college, a continuing education college, and a medical basic and public course department. It has opened 22 majors (directions) such as clinical medicine, stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine, preventive medicine, and nursing, with about 15,000 students. There are 1,017 faculty members in service, including 52 professors and chief physicians, 270 associate professors and other associate senior titles, and more than 210 "dual-qualified" teachers. The school has one directly affiliated hospital (Xiangtan Third People's Hospital), 10 affiliated teaching hospitals, namely the affiliated central hospital (Xiangtan Central Hospital), the affiliated rehabilitation hospital (Xiangtan Sixth People's Hospital), the affiliated Xiangtan First Hospital (Xiangtan First People's Hospital), the affiliated Xiangtan Women and Children's Hospital (Xiangtan Maternal and Child Health Hospital), the affiliated Xiangtan County Hospital (Xiangtan County People's Hospital), the affiliated Xiangxiang Hospital (Xiangxiang People's Hospital), the affiliated Xiangxiang Second Hospital (Xiangxiang Second People's Hospital), the affiliated Taojiang Hospital (Taojiang County People's Hospital), the affiliated Huaihua Hospital (Huaihua Second People's Hospital), and the affiliated Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital (Xiangtan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital). There are 7 on-campus production training bases for stomatology, stomatology technology, medical cosmetology technology, optometry technology, geriatric health care and management, and pharmacy and traditional Chinese medicine. There are more than 200 designated medical and health internship employment bases, including the Air Force General Hospital, the Southern Theater General Hospital, and the Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. The school is a high-level vocational college and high-level professional group (clinical medicine professional group, nursing professional group and rehabilitation therapy technology professional group) construction school in Hunan Province. It is an advanced university in the construction of modern university system in Hunan Province, an excellent school of Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award, a provincial civilized campus, an excellent unit of the "top leader project" for employment and entrepreneurship of ordinary college graduates in the province, a provincial grassroots health basic talent training base, and the only examination site for the provincial assistant general practitioner training and graduation assessment. It is a "high-quality provincial vocational teacher training" of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, a "double-qualified" teacher training for rehabilitation therapy technology, and a provincial higher vocational college course ideological and political teaching design and implementation training project unit. The school takes serving the development of local health and health undertakings as its school-running direction, continuously deepens school-enterprise cooperation, integration of production and education, and cultivates medical and health talents.
