Xinjiang Second Medical College is a full-time general undergraduate college directly under the autonomous region, with medicine as the main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as science and management. The college was formerly Xinjiang Medical University Houbo College, which was founded in 2003 and is a full-time general undergraduate independent college. In 2012, with the approval of the People's Government of the Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Medical University and Karamay City jointly built Houbo College in a cooperative school-running manner. In September 2015, Houbo College moved to Karamay City as a whole. In January 2021, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China approved the conversion of Houbo College to Xinjiang Second Medical College. The college covers an area of more than 1,100 acres and a construction area of 240,000 square meters. There are 150 professional laboratories, including 17 scientific research laboratories, with a total value of 68.681 million yuan and 6,628 sets of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment. The library has a total of more than 390,000 paper books, more than 5,100 electronic journals, and more than 2.17 million dissertations. At present, 13 majors are offered, including clinical medicine, stomatology, clinical medicine of traditional Chinese and western medicine, anesthesiology, nursing, pharmacy, medical imaging technology, medical laboratory technology, health inspection and quarantine, information management and information system, public utilities management, preventive medicine, and intelligent medical engineering. There are more than 5,500 full-time students, and each year they enroll students from 21 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, including Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Liaoning, and Zhejiang. There are 355 faculty members and 592 part-time teachers in affiliated hospitals. The college currently has 2 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 3 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate courses, and 19 autonomous region-level teaching reform projects. There are 78 ongoing projects, 62 papers have been published in the past three years, and 3 utility model patents have been approved. 3 awards for outstanding academic papers in natural sciences of the autonomous region have been won, 1 teacher has obtained the qualification of training key scientific and technological innovation talents at the municipal level, and 2 teachers have obtained the qualification of training outstanding scientific and technological innovation talents at the municipal level. The college has signed contracts with many affiliated hospitals such as the People's Hospital of the Autonomous Region, and signed 52 clinical teaching practice bases, including 30 Class A tertiary hospitals, 14 national residency training bases, and 8 autonomous region-level residency training bases, basically covering all prefectures and cities in southern and northern Xinjiang, and building a practical teaching base system of "affiliated hospital + teaching hospital + internship hospital + teaching base", promoting the formation of a good development pattern of "teaching drives medical treatment, medical treatment feeds back teaching, and scientific research enhances strength".
