The predecessor of Xishuangbanna Vocational and Technical College was the Provincial Fohai Simple Normal School founded in 1936. In July 2001, with the approval of the Provincial People's Government and the filing of the Ministry of Education, the original Xishuangbanna State Nationalities Normal School, Xishuangbanna Radio and Television University, and Xishuangbanna Education College merged to form Xishuangbanna Vocational and Technical College. In 2006, it passed the evaluation of the talent training level of higher vocational colleges of the Ministry of Education; in 2012, it became the first batch of Yunnan Province's higher vocational education demonstration colleges; in 2013, it passed the Yunnan Province Higher Vocational Colleges Characteristic Evaluation; in 2016, it was selected as one of the "Top 50 Higher Vocational Colleges with International Influence in 2016"; in 2019, the "China-Thailand 'Belt and Road' Applied Thai Talent Training Project" was selected as the second batch of "China-ASEAN Higher Vocational Colleges Characteristic Cooperation Project". In 2022, it won the "Service Excellence Award" of the Lancang-Mekong Vocational Education Alliance. As of the end of 2022, the number of activities released in the "Dream Space" has been ranked in the top 50 of the second classroom activities released by colleges and universities nationwide for six consecutive periods. The college is divided into two parts: the old and new campuses. The old campus is located in the center of Jinghong, the capital of Xishuangbanna Prefecture, a famous tourist city with beautiful scenery and beautiful scenery. It enjoys the titles of "National Garden City" and "China's Most Influential Tourist Destination". It covers an area of 158 acres and a building area of 63,551 square meters; the new campus is located in Menglun Town, Mengla County, on the banks of the Luosuo River, a tributary of the Lancang-Mekong River, adjacent to the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 172 km from the national port Mohan and 68 km from the national port Guanlei. It covers an area of 1,232.02 acres, a building area of 253,808.42 square meters, an investment of 1.74 billion yuan, and a planned student population of 13,000. The completion and commissioning of the new campus has greatly improved the conditions for running schools, and provided a basic guarantee for the college to expand its scale of operation, improve its level of operation, and build itself into a border "national gate" higher vocational college facing South Asia and Southeast Asia, with distinctive school characteristics and outstanding location advantages. As of January 2022, the college has 12,308 full-time students. There are 414 faculty members (including 299 teachers, 101 management and teaching assistants, and 14 workers). There are 136 people with postdoctoral, master's, and graduate degrees and doctoral and master's degrees; 75 people have senior professional titles, and 113 "dual-qualified" teachers. There are 14 grassroots party organizations, including 1 party committee, 1 party general branch, and 12 party branches; there are 305 members of the Communist Party of China, including 213 active party members, 66 retired party members, and 26 student party members. The college has 9 secondary colleges (departments, centers), including the International Exchange College, the Teachers College (Public Course Department), the Medical College, the School of Tourism and Finance, the School of Life Sciences, the Secondary Vocational Education Center, the School of Marxism, the Sports Department, and the School of Continuing Education (Open College). There are 43 junior college majors (22 of which are enrolled all year round), including 5 provincial specialty and provincial key construction majors (preschool education, applied Thai and Dai medicine are 3 majors of high-level backbone majors in Yunnan Province). During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the college plans to add 24 majors such as nursing, garden engineering technology, secretarial work, Dai medicine, and digital media application technology, which will provide more and better vocational skills talents for the society. There are multiple internship and training bases, forming a training system combining "on-campus, off-campus, and transnational", with relatively complete experimental training conditions. Since 2001, the college has trained more than 40,000 talents of various types, trained more than 80,000 personnel of various types, and the annual employment rate of graduates has reached more than 95%. It has made outstanding contributions and played an important role in talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, foreign cooperation and exchanges, as well as promoting national unity and progress, enriching the people and revitalizing the border, and maintaining good neighborliness and security. Tens of thousands of graduates have become an important force for the reform and development of all walks of life in Xishuangbanna and surrounding areas. The college's experience and achievements in running schools have been widely recognized by Xishuangbanna and surrounding areas. Leaders such as Li Lanqing and Liu Yandong have visited the school and fully affirmed and cared for the work of the college. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the college has adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, implemented the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, continuously strengthened and improved party building, innovated new paths for party building work, explored new models of high-quality development, promoted continuous progress in various undertakings, and led the college to strive for higher, faster and stronger goals.
