Xuzhou Medical University is a high-level university construction project in Jiangsu. The history of the school can be traced back to the Jiangsu Provincial Medical Administration College founded in 1934. In 1958, it was relocated from Nanjing Medical College to Xuzhou to establish the Xuzhou Branch of Nanjing Medical College. In 1960, it was named Xuzhou Medical College and in 2016, it was renamed Xuzhou Medical University. Over the past 60 years since its establishment, the school has adhered to the school motto of "carrying medicine with virtue, being knowledgeable and innovative", implemented the development strategy of "strengthening the school with talents, establishing the school with quality, developing the school with science and technology, and establishing a distinctive school with culture", adhered to the development ideas of "innovative development", "selective excellence" and "relevance-driven", and has embarked on a distinctive development path. It is a higher medical school with a long history and distinctive characteristics in the entire Huaihai Economic Zone, and it is also the center of medical education, medical research and medical services in the region. The university has 18 colleges (departments), 39 affiliated hospitals (clinical colleges), more than 18,000 full-time students and more than 1,500 faculty and staff. It has 29 undergraduate majors, covering four disciplines: medicine, science, engineering, and management. It has a first-level discipline for the doctoral degree in basic medicine and a professional degree for the doctoral degree in clinical medicine; 7 first-level disciplines for the master's degree in biology, biomedical engineering, basic medicine, clinical medicine, public health and preventive medicine, pharmacy, and nursing, and 9 professional master's degree authorization points in electronic information, biology and medicine, clinical medicine, stomatology, public health, nursing, pharmacy, medical technology, and public management. It has the right to recommend master's students, and has 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations in biology and clinical medicine and a postdoctoral research workstation in clinical medicine. It has formed a comprehensive and multi-level education system from undergraduates, graduate students to postdoctoral students, from full-time to adult education, and international student education. The school insists on taking teaching as the center, deepening teaching reform, standardizing teaching management, and continuously improving teaching quality, and has passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education. The university has won 1 first prize and 1 second prize in national teaching achievement awards, as well as provincial and ministerial awards such as the provincial special prize in teaching achievement awards. It has been approved for 14 national first-class majors, covering 88.48% of the total number of students. It has national characteristic major construction sites, national planning textbooks, national talent training model innovation experimental areas, national experimental teaching demonstration centers and national teaching teams. It is one of the first batch of national clinical medicine master's professional degree graduate training model reform pilot universities; it has passed the Ministry of Education's clinical medicine professional certification, which is valid for 10 years; it has won the national "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" project and the central government's financial support for the development of local universities. The school insists on collaborative innovation and service development through the integration of industry and education. Relying on the two national key laboratories of "Key Laboratory of Research and Evaluation of Anesthesia, Analgesia and Psychotropic Drugs of the State Drug Administration" and "National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Tumor Biotherapy", we carry out joint research on scientific and technological projects. Actively integrate into the integrated development pattern of the Yangtze River Delta, approved to build the "Yangtze River Delta National Innovation Center Cell Therapy Drug Research Institute", approved by the Ministry of Education for the joint construction of the Provincial and Ministerial Collaborative Innovation Center for Tumor Biotherapy, and achieved another breakthrough in the school's national scientific research platform. Two laboratories, Cell Drugs and Immunity and Metabolism, were selected as the "14th Five-Year Plan" Joint Laboratories for International Cooperation of Colleges and Universities in Jiangsu Province. Deeply promote school-enterprise cooperation, sign a strategic cooperation agreement with Fosun Pharma Group, and cooperate with Quanshan District, Gulou District, Economic Development Zone, and Yunlong District of Xuzhou City to jointly build a national university science and technology park, forming an innovation pattern of "one park and multiple districts". Anesthesiology education is the school's characteristic and advantage. The school founded China's first undergraduate major in anesthesiology, compiled China's first set of anesthesiology textbooks and the first "Anesthesiology" textbook for clinical medicine majors, and took the lead in opening the "5+3 connection" direction of anesthesiology majors in the country. It was approved as a national first-class major, a national characteristic major construction site, a national talent training model innovation experimental base, and a national clinical key specialty. It won the first and second prizes of national teaching achievements. The discipline has been approved as the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Anesthesiology, the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Anesthesia and Analgesia Application Technology, and the State Drug Administration's Key Laboratory of Anesthetic Psychotropic Drug Research and Evaluation. The anesthesiology teacher team was selected as a national teaching team and a Huang Danian-style teacher team in national universities. In the Alumni Association's ranking of China's top universities (research-oriented), the anesthesiology major was rated A++ and China's six-star research-oriented major (6★), ranking among the world's high-level majors and China's top majors, ranking first in the country. The school is known as the "cradle of Chinese anesthesiology talents".
