Yangtze Engineering Vocational and Technical College (referred to as "Yangtze Institute") is a public full-time higher vocational college directly under the People's Government of Hubei Province. It is a national demonstration college for water conservancy vocational education, a national high-quality water conservancy higher vocational college, and a construction unit of Hubei Province's "Double High Plan". It is also the leading construction unit of the Yangtze River Great Protection Vocational Education Group and the Beidou and Application Industry-Education Integration Community. The school was formerly known as Yangtze Engineering University. It was an undergraduate college established in 1959 under the direct concern of Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou to meet the needs of the development and management of the Yangtze River. The first president was Lin Yishan, who was called "King of the Yangtze River" by Chairman Mao. In November 1974, it moved from Wuhan to Chibi City to resume schooling and was renamed Yangtze River Water Conservancy and Hydropower School. It is a national key secondary technical school. In March 1982, Yangtze Workers University was established, and it implemented the organizational system of "two brands, one team, two levels, and unified management" with the Yangtze River Water Conservancy and Hydropower School. It was upgraded to Yangtze Engineering Vocational and Technical College in 2003. In 2004, it was transferred from the Ministry of Water Resources to the management of the Hubei Provincial People's Government. In 2008, the whole school moved back to Wuhan to run schools. In 2009, Danjiangkou Workers University entered, and in 2021, Hubei Industrial Economics School entered, forming a "one school and two districts" school-running pattern of the main campus of Wenhua Avenue and the Yangtze River New District campus. Among them, the Wenhua Avenue campus is located at No. 9 Wenhua Avenue, Jiangxia District, Wuhan City, and the Yangtze River New District campus is located at No. 82 Hanshi Avenue, Wuhu Town, Huangpi District, Wuhan City, covering a total area of more than 600 acres. The school recruits students from more than 20 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions across the country. There are currently more than 13,000 students and nearly 500 faculty and staff. There are teaching colleges and departments such as the School of Water Conservancy and Hydropower, the School of Computer Technology, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Urban Construction, the School of Economics and Management, the Department of Surveying and Mapping Information Engineering, the School of Marxism, and the Department of Public Courses, with 43 higher vocational majors. Two provincial-level high-level professional groups (ecological water conservancy and intelligent manufacturing) have been established to connect and serve two key professional groups for the development of Hubei's "51020" modern industrial clusters (ecological water conservancy and surveying and mapping geographic information). There are 2 national model branches for the "double innovation" work of party building in colleges and universities, 1 benchmark college in Hubei Province, and 1 construction unit of the "double leader" teacher party branch secretary studio in colleges and universities in the province. Many party member teachers have won honors such as "Excellent Communist Party Member of the Province", "Excellent Party Worker of the Province" and "The Tenth Batch of Excellent Provincial and Municipal Aid to Xinjiang Cadres and Talents". The "Yangtze River Water Culture" was rated as the "one school, one product" campus culture of vocational colleges by the Ministry of Education, and the "Story of the Yangtze River" characteristic ideological and political course was selected into the "China" series of ideological and political gold courses in Hubei Province. The Volunteer Association of the School of Water Resources and Hydropower was rated (hired) as "Hubei Province River and Lake Chief System Demonstration Figure", "Wuhan City Top Ten Folk Lake Chiefs", and the first batch of Wuhan's land-based folk river and lake chiefs. The school was rated as an outstanding unit for the summer "Three Going to the Countryside" social practice activities of college and technical secondary school student volunteers, an outstanding unit for peace and security construction in Hubei Province, and was selected as a comprehensive pilot school for ideological and political courses in universities, middle schools and primary schools in Hubei Province. With water conservancy as its feature and engineering as its backbone, it has coordinated the development of multiple majors. It has established 3 national and provincial online boutique courses for vocational education, won 2 Hubei Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards, 3 Vocational College Course Ideological and Political Excellent Case Awards, and was selected as a typical case of teaching diagnosis and improvement in vocational colleges across the country. It is the first batch of Hubei pilot units for the national smart education platform. It has been approved for 24 supply and demand docking employment education projects of the Ministry of Education and 2 special training plan projects for the first batch of field engineers in Hubei Province. Multiple measures have been taken to implement the reform of the construction of a modern vocational education system, and many projects have been reviewed by the Ministry of Education. Adhere to open education, industry-education integration, and school-enterprise cooperation to create new paths. Join hands with 109 "government, business, enterprise, school and society" related units in the Yangtze River Basin to take the lead in establishing the Yangtze River Great Protection Vocational Education Group. In cooperation with Wuhan University and Hubei Geo-Information Technology Group Co., Ltd., the Beidou and Application Industry-Education Integration Community was initiated, which is the first provincial industry-education integration community established in our province. In cooperation with 8 "government, business, enterprise, society and park" units, the first batch of intelligent construction specialized and new industry colleges approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology were approved. Won 3 typical cases of industry-education integration and school-enterprise cooperation from the Ministry of Education and the water conservancy industry, and ranked among the top 50 of the 2023 National Vocational College Industry-Education Integration Excellence List. Adhere to being based in Hubei and facing the industry, and the level of scientific research and social services is constantly improving. Approved as a supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation, completed 1 National Natural Science Foundation project, and is researching 2 Hubei Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects. One "Hubei Industry Professor" was selected from the enterprise, 3 "Deputy General Managers of Science and Technology" and 20 "Academician Expert Enterprises" were selected in Hubei Province, and 3 "Hundred Schools and Hundred Counties-Colleges Serving Rural Revitalization Science and Technology Support Action Plans" were completed. It has established a branch for the certification of vocational skill levels in the water conservancy industry and a social training and evaluation organization for the certification of vocational skill levels in Wuhan. It is a co-construction unit of the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Talent Training Base and the National Dual-qualified Teacher Training Base (Water Conservancy). It has been approved as an experimental school for the "Vocational Colleges Serving the Lifelong Learning Project for All" by the Ministry of Education. Adhering to the principle of "going overseas with enterprises", it has written a new chapter in international exchanges and cooperation. It has been approved as the "Smart Manufacturing Chinese and Foreign Cultural Exchange Talent Training Base" by the Ministry of Education, and carried out "Chinese + Vocational Skills" training in Zimbabwe. It has completed the development of national occupational standards for water conservancy and hydropower engineering, mechanical equipment maintenance, etc. in Tanzania, and participated in the development of national occupational standards for tourism management service technicians and elevator maintenance technicians in Laos, helping Chinese vocational education go abroad.
