Yangtze Vocational College is a full-time public general higher vocational college approved by the Ministry of Education of China, sponsored by the People's Government of Hubei Province, and directly under the Hubei Provincial Department of Education. The history of the school began in 1984 with Hubei University of Economics and Management. In October 1998, the Hubei Provincial Government merged Wuhan Metallurgical Safety Technology Workers University into Hubei University of Economics and Management; in July 1999, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Yangtze Vocational College based on the Hubei University of Economics and Management; in June 2015, the Hubei Provincial Government merged the Hubei Medical School, founded in 1975, into Yangtze Vocational College as a whole. In 2019, it was identified as a high-quality higher vocational college in Hubei Province by the Provincial Department of Education. In 2021, the school was identified as a model school for the construction of digital campuses in vocational colleges across the country, and was selected as the first batch of national pilot schools for emergency education. In 2022, the school was successfully selected as a project construction unit of high-level higher vocational colleges in Hubei Province, and the two professional groups of animation design and pharmaceutical production technology were selected as high-level professional group project construction projects. In 2023, the school was successfully selected as the first batch of national health school construction units of the Ministry of Education. Since its establishment, all teachers, students and staff of the school have worked hard, made great efforts, pioneered and made progress, continuously reformed and optimized the school-running system and operation mechanism, innovated the education and teaching concepts and talent training models, and achieved good school-running results. The school is one of the first pilot units for educational informatization construction of the Ministry of Education, a national digital campus construction experimental school, a national model school for digital campus construction in vocational colleges, the first batch of pilot schools for emergency education in the country, the first batch of healthy school construction units in the country, and the China training base for the 3D game design competition of the World Skills Competition. It has the only provincial-level key research base for humanities and social sciences in higher vocational colleges in Hubei Province-Hubei Skilled Talent Training Research Center, which has been identified by the Hubei Provincial Department of Education as the "Career Research and Training Base for Higher Vocational Colleges in Hubei Province" and the "Hubei University Student Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base". The school is the first president unit of the Party Building Research Association of Higher Vocational Colleges in Hubei Province and the Higher Vocational Education Society of Hubei Province. It has won the titles of provincial civilized units and provincial best civilized units for ten consecutive terms. It has won many honorary titles such as the provincial advanced unit of vocational education, advanced unit of party building and ideological and political work, etc.; in 2020 and 2022, it was selected into the top 50 typical colleges in the governance system of higher vocational colleges in the country. The school is located on the shore of the beautiful South Lake and in the core area of "Wuhan·China Optics Valley". The school is run in a branch campus. The entire campus covers an area of 1,139 acres (including 393 acres of land in the Xiuhai Lake area), with a building area of nearly 300,000 square meters and more than 14,000 full-time students. With the completion and use of the Wuhan Science and Technology New City Campus, starting from 2020, Yangtze Vocational College has formed a pattern of running schools in Optics Valley Campus and Wuhan New City Campus. The two campuses are respectively located in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Wuhan Free Trade Pilot Zone) and Wuhan New City Gehua District (Central E-commerce Base), with obvious location advantages. Based on the Optics Valley Center and the Central E-commerce Base, the school truly realizes the country's requirements for higher vocational colleges: "Build schools in industrial bases and development zones, and build majors on industrial chains and demand chains." The school is committed to serving the local regional economic and social development, continuously innovating the system and mechanism of school-enterprise cooperation and integration of production and education, and has opened 32 order training classes with many well-known enterprises such as Suning Appliance, and has more than 200 deep cooperation enterprises, effectively guaranteeing the quality of students' internships, training and employment. The school is known as the "cradle of entrepreneurs". A large number of world-renowned and nationally renowned entrepreneurs such as Li Shufu, chairman of Geely Group, and An Conghui, president, graduated from Yangtze Vocational College (Hubei University of Economics and Management). Since its establishment, it has trained more than 180,000 specialized talents of various types for the country, and has made great contributions to economic construction and social development. Yangtze Vocational College is the largest institution of higher vocational colleges in Hubei for art students. The overall quality of education is at the leading level in the country, especially the animation major has a brand effect. It has the only national animation training base in Hubei higher vocational colleges, and has taken the lead in establishing the Hubei Animation Vocational Education Group, and has been approved for the Hubei Animation Vocational Education Brand Construction Project (one of the top ten vocational education brands in Hubei). The school also has five national training bases for animation design, marketing, biopharmaceutical technology, drug and food inspection, and computer application. It has a school-run enterprise, Hubei Yikang Pharmaceutical Factory, which integrates production, learning, research and training. Yangtze Vocational College is one of the earliest schools in Hubei higher vocational colleges to offer e-commerce majors. It has a team of e-commerce teachers with rich practical experience. According to the standards of first-class e-commerce and logistics companies, it has set up real-world e-commerce, logistics management, express delivery operations and other training bases. Over the past 20 years, the school has trained more than 6,000 e-commerce talents and is known as the "cradle of e-commerce talents in Hubei colleges and universities". Yangtze Vocational College's environmental art design major was the first to carry out the national modern apprenticeship system pilot work. The educational reform results of "government, school, industry and enterprise linkage, industry-education integration and collaborative education" were rated as a typical case of the national modern apprenticeship system construction results in 2018. In 2019, it participated in the National Higher Vocational Education Reform and Development Achievements Exhibition and won the first prize of the 2018 Hubei Province's first vocational college school-enterprise cooperation typical case, which has produced a typical demonstration effect across the country. Yangtze Vocational College is a member unit of the National Food and Drug Vocational Education Teaching Steering Committee and a deputy director unit of the China Vocational Education Society's Medical Professional Committee. The School of Medicine and Nursing of the school was established on the basis of the former Hubei Medical School. It has a history of more than 40 years of medical vocational education and was once known as the "Huangpu Military Academy of Hubei's Medical Industry". In recent years, the one-time employment rate of graduates from Yangtze Vocational College has been above 96%, ranking among the top vocational colleges in Hubei. It is an advanced employment unit and a model unit for college students' entrepreneurship in Hubei universities. Yangtze Vocational College consists of 13 secondary colleges, namely the School of Art and Design, the School of Finance and Tourism, the School of E-commerce and Logistics, the School of Data Information, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Automobile, the School of Urban Construction, the School of Medicine and Nursing, the School of Culture and Education, the School of Marxism, the Department of Physical Education and Aesthetic Education, the School of Continuing Education (Community Education College), the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the International College.
