Yueyang Vocational and Technical College is a comprehensive higher vocational college organized by the Yueyang Municipal People's Government and managed by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. It was established in April 2003 by merging and upgrading the former Yueyang Medical School, Yueyang Agricultural School, Yueyang Electromechanical School and Yueyang Workers' College. The college has become a model higher vocational college in Hunan Province, an excellent higher vocational college in Hunan Province, a pilot unit of the third batch of modern apprenticeship system in the country, a "double top ten" college in Hunan vocational education student management and teaching management, a national "high-quality junior college higher vocational college", and a national "double high college" (i.e., high-level higher vocational schools and professional groups with Chinese characteristics) project construction unit, and has obtained the qualification to recruit international students in China. The comprehensive strength of the school ranks among the advanced ranks in the national higher vocational education. The college is a national 3A-level tourist attraction with a campus area of more than 1,000 acres, a building area of 300,000 square meters, and a total fixed asset value of 690 million yuan (original value). It has 8 secondary colleges including the School of Nursing, the School of Medicine, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Commerce and Logistics, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Bio-Environmental Engineering, the School of International Education, and the School of Social Training, as well as two public teaching departments, the Department of Basic Medicine and the Department of Public Basics, and 28 higher vocational majors. The college has three secondary legal entities, namely the Agricultural Science Center, the Affiliated Hospital (Yueyang Aikang Hospital), and the Guotai Sunshine Nursing Home (Elderly Nursing Training Center), and 6 research institutes (institutes) including higher vocational education, elderly care, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, applied technology, Zhang Guying Folk Culture, and Yueyang Modern Logistics Industry Development. The college has more than 800 faculty and staff (including 40 professors, 232 associate professors and other associate senior titles, 257 doctors and masters, and "double-qualified" teachers account for 92% of professional teachers), and more than 16,000 full-time students. Since its establishment in 2003, the college has actively adapted to the needs of regional economic and social development, taking "learning for application" as its school motto, adhering to the school-running philosophy of "cultivating morality and cultivating people, applying knowledge to the world, quality first, and establishing schools with characteristics", and adhering to the school-running model of "government-led, industry participation, school linkage, and enterprise integration". In accordance with the professional construction ideas of "relying on industries to run majors, running majors well to promote industries" and "relying on industries, connecting with industries, locking in careers, and serving employment", the professional chain is deeply integrated into the industrial chain, the teaching chain is deeply integrated into the service chain, the school-enterprise integration and the combination of work and study have cultivated more than 80,000 high-tech skilled talents of various types. From 2016 to 2021, students participated in the National Vocational College Skills Competition. The nursing major won the first prize for 4 consecutive years and the second prize for 2 years. The application software major won the first prize for 2 years and the second prize for 3 years. The clinical medicine major won the first prize in 2018 and the first, second and third prizes in 2019. In the 2018 National College Students' Youth Health Stage Play Competition, our college team won the first prize with the first place in the total score. With the expansion of the school's influence, in recent years, mainstream media such as Xinhua News Agency, China News Service, Guangming Daily, China Education Daily, Hunan Daily, Yueyang Daily, Hunan Economic TV, Yueyang TV Station, People's Daily, New Hunan, and Red Net have repeatedly reported on the development achievements and school-running experience of our college. It has more than 20 training bases, including a large-scale amusement facility inspection personnel certification and training base, a vocational college migrant worker training base, a poverty-stricken village entrepreneurship and wealth creation leader training base in Hunan Province, a localized training base for rural doctors in Hunan Province, and a demonstration base for enterprise talent training in Hunan Province. In order to highlight the characteristics of running a school and create a development brand, the college is based on its advantages in running a school, focuses on the big health industry, actively integrates into "Healthy China 2030" and "Made in China 2025", adjusts the professional layout, optimizes resource allocation, and concentrates on building six major professional groups, including elderly health services, maternal and child health services, health equipment manufacturing and maintenance, health product circulation services, healthy agricultural services, and health information services. Focus on the construction of three major characteristic professional groups, including elderly health services, maternal and child health services, and health equipment manufacturing and maintenance, forming a professional system with health services as the main line and distinctive characteristics, and strive to create a highland for talent training in the health industry, a technical skills innovation service platform, and an industrial development booster. In 2014, the health service professional group was established as a demonstrative characteristic professional group in Hunan Province. In 2018, three major key professional groups, including elderly health services, maternal and child health services, and health equipment manufacturing and maintenance, were selected into the first-class characteristic professional group construction project of higher vocational education in Hunan Province. In 2019, the nursing (maternal and child care) teaching team established the "first batch of national vocational education teacher teaching innovation team". The college took the lead in initiating the establishment of the National Midwifery Talent Training and Grassroots Maternal and Child Health Care Cooperation Alliance, and jointly built a vocational education midwifery professional (group) teaching resource library with 34 domestic higher vocational colleges and 12 hospitals. The resource library was successively selected into the 2019 Provincial Professional Teaching Resource Library and the 2019 National Vocational Education Professional Teaching Resource Library.
