Yulin University is a provincial undergraduate college with engineering as its main discipline, and coordinated development of engineering, management, literature, science, agriculture, law and other disciplines. It is the only provincial undergraduate college in Yulin City. The school came from Suide Normal School, and its history can be traced back to 1923. Suide Normal School is the place where the seeds of the Northwest Revolution were sown. Three alumni became vice-state leaders, more than 60 alumni became senior cadres of the party, government and military of New China, 8 alumni served as secretaries of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and more than 70 alumni heroically sacrificed themselves for the Chinese revolution. It has made special and significant contributions to the creation and development of the Northwest Revolutionary Base. Chairman Mao once wrote the inscription "Struggle" for the students of Suishi Normal School, Xi Zhongxun wrote the inscription "Cradle of Revolutionary Talents" for Suishi Normal School, and alumni wrote the inscriptions "Northwest Revolution Source" and "Hundred Years of Talents" for the school. In 2003, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2018, it was identified as a first-class applied undergraduate college construction unit by Shaanxi Province and a master's degree authorization unit by the Ministry of Education. The university currently has three campuses in Yuyang, Suide and Science and Innovation City, with 16 secondary colleges, 52 undergraduate majors, and 15,047 full-time students, including 14,412 full-time undergraduates, 156 junior college students, 453 master's students, 26 international students for academic education, and 531 joint training students. The school currently has 1,213 faculty and staff, 778 of whom have a master's degree or above. Among them, there are 2 second-level professors, 19 third-level professors, 1 academician of the European Academy of Natural Sciences, 140 senior professional titles, 424 associate senior professional titles, 305 doctors, and 896 full-time teachers. The school has set up an academician expert workstation, and appointed 6 academicians of the two academies, 1 advanced worker of Shaanxi Province, 1 expert selected for Shaanxi Province's "Three Five Talents", 1 high-level talent introduction plan of Shaanxi Province, 8 talents of special support plan, 5 talents of Sanqin, 4 chief scientists of the provincial Qin Chuangyuan scientists + engineers, 3 young and middle-aged scientific and technological innovation leaders of Shaanxi Province, 12 young scientific and technological rising stars of Shaanxi Province, 4 provincial Qin Chuangyuan cited talents, 4 outstanding young people of Shaanxi universities, 8 winners of the provincial youth talent support plan, 9 famous teachers of Shaanxi Province, and more than 40 experts with outstanding contributions in Yulin City. Since its establishment, the school has provided more than 100,000 talents of various types to the country, and 1 alumnus has been elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The school is one of the first batch of pilot colleges for transformation and development in the country. It has been approved for 1 national comprehensive reform pilot project, 2 national "four new" projects, and 3 national excellent agricultural and forestry talent education and training plan projects; it has 1 provincial key discipline, 2 provincial key support disciplines, 1 provincial modern industrial college, 6 provincial "four new" projects, 12 provincial first-class majors, 4 provincial characteristic majors, 4 provincial comprehensive reform pilot projects of college majors, 29 provincial first-class courses, 4 provincial teaching teams, 1 Shaanxi Higher Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Research and Training Base, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and 4 provincial talent training model innovation experimental zones. In the provincial comprehensive scientific research competition index of newly built (applied) undergraduate universities, it ranks 10th in the country, and the ranking of Soft Science has risen from more than 600 to 412. The university adheres to the positioning of "taking root in Yulin, studying Yulin, serving Yulin, and contributing to Yulin", and combines the regional resource advantages and industrial development characteristics to form a discipline and professional cluster that closely connects with industrial needs. Focusing on the characteristic agriculture, energy and chemical industry, cultural tourism, equipment manufacturing and other industries in Yulin's arid areas, the university focuses on "three transformations" (high-end, diversified, and low-carbon energy and chemical industry), "three yellows" (yellow sand, loess, and ecological governance of the Yellow River), and "three cultures" (red culture of the university, historical culture and folk art of northern Shaanxi, and revolutionary culture of northern Shaanxi), forming characteristic disciplines such as folklore, energy and chemical industry, soil and water conservation and desertification prevention and control, crop cultivation and farming, animal genetics, breeding and reproduction, and Northwest revolutionary history, and building a discipline and professional system that is highly consistent with the local industrial structure. It has solved a number of key problems that restrict regional economic and social development, and has been promoted and applied in Yulin's social production practice, achieving good economic and social benefits. In 2015, it won the "China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Promotion Award". Adhering to the principle of open education, the university has established inter-school exchanges and cooperation with more than 20 universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Russia, Poland, Spain, South Korea, Malaysia and other countries. It has jointly carried out undergraduate education projects in Sino-foreign cooperative education with the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom and the Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University in Russia. It has signed counterpart support agreements with 6 universities including Xi'an Jiaotong University; jointly trained agricultural extension masters and engineering masters with Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University and Xi'an Shiyou University; and established a joint postgraduate training demonstration workstation in cooperation with Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University and Northwest University. It has cooperated with the Yulin Municipal People's Government and the Clean Energy Innovation Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to jointly build the Yulin Branch of the School of Energy of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and cooperated with Huawei to jointly build the Huawei ICT Academy, and carried out in-depth cooperation in scientific research, undergraduate education, and postgraduate education. In July 2023, the school advocated and initiated the establishment of the "Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia-Inner Mongolia-Shanxi Junction Local Applied Undergraduate College Alliance". Relying on an alliance, 12 local applied undergraduate colleges in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia-Inner Mongolia-Shanxi Junction area have achieved "co-consultation", "co-sharing", "co-construction", "co-creation" and "co-advancement", and have made every effort to build an innovation highland for local undergraduate applied colleges and universities, and to promote the coordinated and high-quality development of the economy and society in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia-Inner Mongolia-Shanxi Junction area. The school has been awarded the title of "Advanced Unit for Making Remarkable Achievements in Local Economic and Social Development" by the Yulin Municipal Government for many consecutive years. It is a project college of the National Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program, a Shaanxi Energy and Chemical Talent Training Base, the first batch of social science popularization bases in Shaanxi Province, the first batch of applied university transformation pilot colleges and graduate joint training demonstration colleges in Shaanxi Province, a civilized campus and a safe campus in Shaanxi Province, and a national advanced greening unit. As the only undergraduate college in Yulin City, the provincial and municipal party committees and governments pay close attention to the development of Yulin College. The Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government clearly proposed "promoting the upgrading of Yulin College to Yulin University" three times in 2013, 2016 and 2018. The Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education and the Yulin Municipal Government signed four agreements on the joint construction of Yulin University in 2008, 2015, 2018 and 2023, providing strong support in terms of policies and funds. The Yulin Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government support the construction of the Science and Innovation City campus, planning 3,540 acres of land at one time, and the first phase of 819.66 acres of land has been allocated free of charge. The construction funds have been included in the Yulin Municipal fiscal budget. In September 2021, the Yulin University held a meeting to promote the construction of a high-level university and a groundbreaking ceremony for the new campus. It is expected that the new campus will be fully put into use in 2025. On May 4, 2023, the school held a grand "Yulin College (Suide Normal School) Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the School and High-quality Development Conference". Qi Xin alumni wrote a congratulatory message "A hundred years of prosperity and talents". Provincial Party Secretary Zhao Yide, Governor Zhao Gang, Xi Yuanping, a representative of the relatives of revolutionary predecessors, and Sun Yao, Vice Minister of Education, attended the conference and put forward clear requirements for the school to build a first-class local applied university. In the future, the school will accelerate the development of connotation, characteristics, and high-quality development, and take the road of localization, characteristics, and differentiation. At the new historical starting point, the school will hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implement the important speeches and instructions of the 20th National Congress of the Party and General Secretary Xi Jinping's visits to Shaanxi, bear in mind the mission of educating people for the Party and the country, implement the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people, focus on high-quality development, emancipate the mind, uphold the truth and innovate, carry forward the spirit of struggle, accelerate catching up and surpassing, and strive to respond to national strategies, promote Shaanxi's construction, serve Yulin's development, and build a distinctive first-class applied university.
