Yunnan Open University is a provincial public new undergraduate college sponsored by the Yunnan Provincial People's Government and supervised by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education. It is supported by information technology, adheres to academic education and non-academic education, and conducts open education academic education and non-academic education for all members of society in an open education manner. Its predecessor was Yunnan Radio and Television University, which was established in May 1979. In October 2010, the State Council approved Yunnan as one of the five pilot provinces (cities) to deepen the comprehensive reform of the education system and explore the construction model of open universities. On December 26, 2012, the Ministry of Education approved the renaming of Yunnan Radio and Television University to Yunnan Open University, becoming one of the six open universities in the country and the only pilot open university in the central and western regions. On December 28, 2012, Yunnan Open University was officially established. Yunnan Lifelong Education Service Center, Yunnan Modern Distance Education Center, Yunnan Community Education Guidance Center, Yunnan Cadre Online Learning College, Yunnan Rural Revitalization Education College, Yunnan Senior Open University, and Yunnan Credit Bank are set up in it. In July 2009, with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial People's Government, Yunnan Open University and Yunnan National Defense Industry Vocational and Technical College merged to implement the "two brands, one team, one legal person" open education and higher vocational education "dual mode" school-running model and its corresponding management system and operation mechanism. At the same time, as the Yunnan branch of the National Open University, the school is an important part of the National Open University's school-running system, and undertakes the specific tasks of the National Open University's open education enrollment and school-running in Yunnan, and is specifically responsible for organizing and carrying out the National Open University's open education undergraduate and junior college enrollment, teaching, teaching management, student management and other school-running work in Yunnan Province. Since its establishment, the school has closely focused on the overall goal of promoting the development of vocational education, lifelong education and building a learning society in the country, combined with the needs of the province's economic and social development for vocational talent training, always adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, adhered to the requirements of vocational talent training, implemented the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people, and continuously promoted the comprehensive and strict governance of the party, the improvement of school-running systems, the development of disciplines and majors, the construction of teaching connotations, the reform of talent training models, the improvement of school-running capabilities, and the construction of high-level new universities, forming the school's unique vocational education, higher education, and continuing education. The school currently has two campuses, Chenggong and Xuefu, with a campus area of 904 acres, a building area of 353,000 square meters, 714,000 paper books, 5.411 million electronic books, and 21 databases of various types. There are experimental training buildings and industry-education integration buildings, as well as 138 on-campus experimental training rooms, 119 on-campus and off-campus training bases, and the 49th and 106th vocational skills appraisal institutes in Yunnan Province. There are 23 undergraduate majors and 43 junior college majors in open education of the National Open University; 15 undergraduate majors and 45 junior college majors in open education of Yunnan Open University, of which 12 undergraduate majors have the right to confer bachelor's degrees, and the discipline of "Highland Agricultural Resources and Environment" has been selected as one of the 25 first-class construction disciplines of the "Yunnan Province New Discipline Cultivation Plan"; Yunnan National Defense Industry Vocational and Technical College has 43 junior college majors in higher vocational education, of which the information and communication technology (ICT) professional group has become a grade A professional group in Yunnan Province, and 13 majors have been rated as provincial modern apprenticeship pilot construction majors. There are 777 faculty members, including 693 full-time teachers, 48 senior professional titles, 225 associate senior professional titles, 35 doctors, 495 masters, and 314 "double-qualified" teachers; there is 1 leader of Yunnan provincial key disciplines, 2 talents of two categories in Yunnan Province, 1 talent of Yunnan Thousand Talents Plan, 19 members of the national provincial teaching committee, 1 young and middle-aged academic and technical leader in Kunming, 3 provincial teaching masters, 1 provincial skill master, 2 provincial master studios, 1 provincial key laboratory, and 5 national and provincial science and technology innovation and teaching teams. There are 200,600 students enrolled in various academic education programs. According to the needs of running schools, the school has built an education system covering the entire province's urban and rural areas and overseas learning centers radiating to South Asia and Southeast Asia in the form of headquarters + open colleges, learning centers, and teaching points. There are currently 28 state (city) and industry (enterprise) open colleges, 23 county (city, district) learning centers, and 174 teaching points; 3 overseas learning centers have been established in Bangladesh, Maldives, and Sri Lanka.
