Yunnan Normal University is a key provincial normal university with a long history and excellent traditions. It is a university jointly constructed by the Ministry of Education and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government and one of the 100 key universities in the national basic capacity improvement project in the central and western regions. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University moved to Kunming to form Southwest Associated University, which consisted of the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Science, the School of Engineering, the School of Law and Business, and the Normal College.
