Yunnan Western University of Applied Technology (hereinafter referred to as "Yunnan Western University") is one of the first batch of applied technology universities in China approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2015. In May 2017, the school was officially established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. As a new type of ordinary public undergraduate university, Yunnan Western University mainly cultivates applied high-level technical and skilled talents urgently needed for regional economic and social development. Yunnan Western University fully draws on the model of German and Swiss universities of applied technology, adopts an open school-running structure of headquarters plus several characteristic colleges and applied technology research institutes (1+N+M), and an integrated school-running model of "government, industry, education, research, and application". In accordance with the principles of "tiered governance, integration of industry and education, demand-driven, cooperative education, open connection, and provincial and ministerial co-construction", starting from the strategic needs of Yunnan Western Economic and Social Development, it focuses on undergraduate education, and integrates higher education, vocational education, and continuing education. Construct a training program and curriculum system based on job professional ability, and promote the "dual certificate" system of academic degree certificates and professional qualification certificates. The headquarters of Dianxi University is located in Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, with a planned land area of 329 mu and a total construction area of about 188,000 square meters. Through active exploration and practice, a school-running structure of headquarters plus several characteristic colleges and applied technology research institutes (1+N+M) has been formed, with four types of school-running types, including characteristic colleges plus directly affiliated colleges, cooperatively-run colleges and professional production-education integration training bases, consolidating and expanding, and the school has achieved full coverage of the western Yunnan area. The professional setting highlights the "application" orientation. Starting from 6 undergraduate majors in 2017, 480 students were enrolled, and by September 2023, 9,500 students were enrolled. At present, there are 42 undergraduate majors, 16 junior college-to-undergraduate majors, and 22 junior college majors. The total number of enrolled students has exceeded 22,000, covering 8 major disciplines such as engineering, law, science, education, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. In the 2023 Soft Science China University Rankings, Yunnan University ranked 582nd, among which the major of gem and material technology ranked 12th and the major of cross-border e-commerce ranked 26th. At present, Yunnan University has 10 directly affiliated colleges (teaching departments), 3 featured colleges, 3 cooperatively-run colleges (campuses), and 3 professional production-education integration training bases-directly affiliated colleges (teaching departments): Marxism College, Health Science and Technology College, Digital Business and Management College, Accounting College, Surveying and Information Engineering College, Architectural Engineering College, Modern Intelligent Manufacturing Industry College, Rural Revitalization College, Continuing Education College, Public Basic Course Teaching Department. Featured colleges: Dai Medicine College (located in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture), Pu'er Tea College (located in Simao District, Pu'er City), Jewelry College (located in Tengchong City, Baoshan) Cooperatively-run colleges (campuses): Nujiang College, Diqing College, Tengchong Campus. Professional production-education integration training bases: Lijiang Normal College, Lincang Modern Vocational Education Center, Dali Prefecture Finance and Trade School. Yunnan University fully integrates the high-quality educational resources of the "985" and "211" key universities directly under the Ministry of Education. At present, it has received comprehensive support from many universities such as Beijing Normal University, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Northeast Normal University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Yunnan University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Yunnan Agricultural University, and Dali University. The cadres and talents on secondment from the ministry-affiliated universities and the silver-aged teachers are widely involved in management and education and teaching. Cooperate with Pu'er Tea Group, Dongfang Jinyu, Yunnan Branch of the Institute of Medicinal Plants of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and many other scientific research institutes and industry enterprises to realize the three-dimensional training of high-level technical and skilled talents. Supplement the strength of the personnel team through multiple channels, focus on adjusting the academic qualifications, professional titles, and age structure, and realize the development from scratch, high starting point, and high speed. The ministry-affiliated and provincial universities have formed a group to borrow the power and brain-based counterpart assistance to send cadres and talents on secondment to the school to guide the work and lead the standardization of various tasks. We hired silver-age teachers and specially-appointed teachers to conduct in-depth teaching and research at the front line, and changed "blood transfusion" to "hematopoiesis" through "transmission, help and guidance". We introduced 24 professional leaders, subject leaders and applied research talents. 14 young teachers pursued doctoral degrees through targeted training. The number of faculty and staff of the headquarters increased from 4 in the early stage of preparation to 375 (including faculty and staff with career and non-career positions), the number of doctors increased from 1 to 12, and the number of teachers with senior professional titles increased from 2 to 45, and the construction of the teaching staff has achieved a big leap. Facing the future, Dianxi University will adhere to the principle of being based in western Yunnan, serving Yunnan, radiating and driving the surrounding areas. In accordance with the school-running purpose of "establishing a college, revitalizing an industry, benefiting the people, and inheriting the culture of one side", it is committed to cultivating high-level technical and skilled talents with good theoretical knowledge and humanistic qualities, and love and dedication to the production, management and service front lines that are urgently needed for the transformation and upgrading of regional characteristic and advantageous industries, and strive to build the school into a high-level applied technology university with international competitiveness and distinctive characteristics that leads the province and even the west.
