Yunnan Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational College is a public higher vocational school with a history of nearly 70 years. It focuses on cultivating high-quality builders and professional and technical personnel in the front line of water conservancy and hydropower construction, operation and management. It is also the only higher vocational school of water conservancy and hydropower in the province. The school currently has two campuses, Fumin and Lanlongtan, with 9 secondary colleges (teaching departments) including water conservancy, electricity, civil engineering, management, artificial intelligence, and digital economy. The school has a profound history of running schools. The predecessor of the school was the Kunming Water Conservancy School of Yunnan Province, founded in 1956. It was renamed Yunnan Water Conservancy School in 1979 and Yunnan Water Conservancy and Hydropower School in 1984. In 2016, the Yunnan Provincial People's Government approved the establishment of Yunnan Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational College. In the same year, the Provincial Party Committee Organization Department approved the overall merger of Yunnan Water Conservancy and Hydropower School into Yunnan Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational College. In the past 70 years, it has provided more than 40,000 outstanding skilled talents to the society and is praised by the industry as the "cradle of water conservancy and hydropower engineers." The school has distinctive characteristics. The school adheres to the school motto of "The best is like water, unity of knowledge and action", adheres to the socialist direction of running schools, takes moral education as the fundamental task, takes water conservancy, electricity, and civil engineering as the backbone features, takes industry-education integration and school-enterprise cooperation as the way, based in Yunnan, facing South Asia and Southeast Asia, and actively serving and integrating into the national development strategy. Since entering the ranks of higher vocational education, it has achieved leapfrog development in all aspects of education and teaching. The school has excellent conditions for running schools. The campus covers an area of more than 700 acres, with a school building area of 228,500 square meters. The campus environment is beautiful, and the water landscapes such as Xuehai, arch dam, earth-rock dam, and three-eye well are scattered, which cleverly integrates internship and training facilities with water cultural landscapes. The school is well-equipped with teachers, with senior titles accounting for 43.8%, master's degrees and above accounting for 51.3%, and "double-qualified" teachers accounting for 62.6%. The school has advanced teaching equipment, sufficient book resources, and rich teaching resources. Each major has a systematic on-campus and off-campus training base. Students have broad employment prospects. Relying on the national and provincial water conservancy and power industry platform, the school has formed a long-term mechanism of school-enterprise cooperation and integration of work and study with hundreds of enterprises and institutions, providing a broad stage for graduates' employment. Over the years, the initial employment signing rate of school graduates has remained at around 98%, and the implementation rate of graduates in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 classes in the past three years has reached about 95%. Each person can choose more than 4 professional counterparts, and the employment rate has always been at the forefront of colleges and universities in the province. At present, guided by Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and guided by the spirit of water conservancy in the new era, the school actively integrates into major national development strategies such as the construction of the "Belt and Road" and the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, takes serving the "three positionings" and "prospering water and moistening Yunnan" as its mission, closely focuses on the construction of the "five networks", relies on the "water diversion project in central Yunnan", is based on the new development stage, implements the new development concept, and builds a new development pattern, striving to create the school as a distinctive and first-class modern higher vocational college in China.
