Zhaoqing Medical College is currently the only public medical college in Guangdong Province. The school was formerly the Zhaoqing Branch of Zhongshan Medical College founded in 1958. In 2004, it was upgraded to a medical college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In the 65 years since its establishment, the school has adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, adhering to the school motto of "great doctors are sincere, and knowledge and practice are unified", and cultivating medical and health talents who can "go down, use well, and retain" at the grassroots level. It has been pioneering and innovative, constantly climbing, and the quality of education has been continuously improved. It has successively achieved many landmark achievements such as "Guangdong Province High-level Vocational College", "Guangdong Province Advanced Vocational Education Unit", and "Guangdong Province Law-based School Demonstration School". The school's strength ranks among the top similar colleges in the country. The school currently has three campuses: New District Campus, Dinghu Campus, and Duanzhou Campus, covering an area of 1,109.27 acres and a total construction area of 430,000 square meters. There are 780 full-time teachers and 11,339 full-time students. At present, the school has teaching units such as the School of Marxism, the School of Humanities, the School of Basic Medicine, the School of Clinical Medicine, the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the School of Stomatology, the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Medical Technology, the School of Public Health, and the School of Continuing Education, and offers 20 full-time majors. The school has three directly affiliated hospitals. Among them, the First Affiliated Hospital is a Class-A tertiary general hospital and a high-level hospital in Guangdong Province, with 1,949 beds, 2,645 professional and technical personnel, and 10 provincial key specialties; the Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a Class-A tertiary hospital of traditional Chinese medicine, with 650 beds, 663 professional and technical personnel, 2 national key specialties, and 9 provincial key specialties; the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital is a Class-A secondary hospital, with 260 beds and 252 professional and technical personnel. The school has a high-level faculty with a reasonable structure and noble teacher ethics. Full-time teachers with postgraduate degrees account for 40.26%, 42 doctors, and full-time teachers above associate senior account for 48.59%, including 129 teachers with senior professional titles and 33 professors. Among full-time teachers, "double-qualified" teachers account for 63.59%. There are 1 national-level teaching innovation team for traditional Chinese medicine teachers and 1 national-level skill master studio for traditional Chinese medicine clinical practice, 7 provincial-level teaching innovation teams, 2 experts with special allowances from the State Council, and 4 provincial-level teaching masters. In the past five years, the school has presided over the construction of the country's only national-level teaching resource library for clinical medicine, won 3 first prizes in Guangdong Province Education and Teaching Achievement Awards, 3 second prizes in Guangdong Province Education and Teaching Achievement Awards, presided over 222 research projects at or above the provincial level, published 1,865 high-level papers, 69 SCI papers, 145 authorized patents, and won 25 scientific and technological achievements awards at or above the municipal level, built 2 national-level online boutique courses, won 5 second prizes in the first National Excellent Textbook Award, and edited 9 national-level planning textbooks. The school uses Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics to cultivate souls and educate people. Through the implementation of ideological "navigation" projects, ideological and political course "navigation" projects, course ideological and political "escort" projects, and online ideological and political "navigation" projects, it cultivates "gatekeepers" who listen to the party, follow the party, and firmly take root in the grassroots to serve the people. In recent years, the school's general college entrance examination enrollment scores in Guangdong Province have always been in the top 10% of higher vocational colleges. The pass rate of students in the national nurse qualification examination is more than 98%, and the pass rate of the comprehensive examination for clinical assistant physicians is 77.73%, which is much higher than the national average. The school has established a modern university governance system based on the charter, created a "1+4+N" system of rules and regulations, and constructed a governance model that is in line with the requirements of scientific, democratic and legal systems, and in line with the actual school operation. In 2016, it became a "Guangdong Province Model School for Rule of Law". In 2022, China Education Daily reported the school's experience in cultivating medical and health talents for the grassroots with the title of "fixed-post training as the basis and general thinking throughout". In 2023, China Education Television reported on the school's grassroots health talent training model, results and contribution to the construction of healthy villages under the theme of "Rooted in the fertile soil of medical education to cultivate grassroots medical talents".
