Zhejiang Conservatory of Music is a public full-time general college approved by the Ministry of Education on March 1, 2016. It is organized by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, supervised by the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and jointly built by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The school is located in the Zhijiang section of Xihu District, Hangzhou City, with a beautiful campus environment and first-class facilities. The campus covers an area of 602 acres and the school building area is 360,000 square meters. It has 1 grand theater, 3 concert halls, 3 theaters, 2 studios, 104 rehearsal halls, 935 piano rooms, 8 recording studios, and libraries and other teaching aids and art practice venues. The school has 3 first-level disciplines, including music and dance, art theory, and drama and film. Two disciplines, including music and dance, and drama and film, are listed as provincial first-class discipline construction plans, of which music and dance is a Class A plan. It has the right to confer a master's degree in music and dance and a master of arts professional degree authorization point. There are 8 majors, including Composition and Composition Technology Theory, Musicology, Music Performance, Dance, Dance Performance, Dance Choreography, Performance, Art and Technology. Among them, 5 majors, including Musicology, Music Performance, Composition and Composition Technology Theory, Dance, and Performance, are national first-class undergraduate major construction points, and the remaining 3 majors are provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points. There are 12 teaching units, including Composition and Conducting Department, Musicology Department, Music Education College, Piano Department, Vocal and Opera Department, Chinese Music Department, Orchestra Department, Popular Music Department, Dance College, Drama Department, Music Engineering Department, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (Marxist College), and affiliated music schools, continuing education colleges, entrepreneurship colleges, international education colleges, and Shutong College. It has provincial and ministerial scientific research institutions such as the Key Laboratory of Digital Music Intelligent Processing Technology of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Research Center for Digital Music, and the Zhejiang Literary and Art Creation Research Center, as well as school-level scientific research platforms such as the Institute of Higher Music Education, the Institute of Drama, the Institute of Musicology, the Institute of Dance, the Institute of Art and Cultural Management, and the Institute of Music Culture, as well as five new performance discipline teaching platforms including the Band Academy, the National Band Academy, the Opera Academy, the Chamber Music Academy, and the Chorus Academy. It has established high-level art practice groups such as the Chamber Orchestra, the National Chamber Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra, the Chinese Orchestra, and the Chorus, and has an editorial department for the journal "Music Culture Research". The school has signed inter-school strategic cooperation agreements with many internationally renowned institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music, the Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary, the Roland University, and the Milan Conservatory of Music in Italy, and has established the "China-Central and Eastern European Music School Alliance" as the chairman unit, actively carrying out international exchanges and cooperation. The school has been approved by the Ministry of Education to have the qualification to recruit students for art majors in reference to the independent establishment of undergraduate art colleges, and recruit students nationwide. There are currently 2,860 undergraduate students and 674 graduate students. There are 682 faculty members, including 444 full-time teachers.
