Zhejiang Normal University is a comprehensive provincial key university with teacher education as its feature. Its predecessor was Hangzhou Normal College. It was established on April 16, 1956 with the approval of the Ministry of Education and upgraded to Hangzhou Normal College in 1958. In 1962, Hangzhou Normal College merged with Zhejiang Education College and Zhejiang Institute of Physical Education and was renamed Zhejiang Normal College. In 1965, Zhejiang Normal College moved from Hangzhou to Jinhua and was renamed Zhejiang Normal University in 1985. In 2000, 2001 and 2004, Zhejiang Finance School, Zhejiang Preschool Normal School and Jinhua Railway Driver School were successively incorporated. In 2015, the school was selected as one of the first batch of key construction universities in Zhejiang Province, and in 2020 it was awarded the second "National Civilized Campus". The school has four campuses, including Jinhua Campus (main campus), Hangzhou Xiaoshan Campus, Hangzhou West Lake Campus, Lanxi Campus, 25 colleges (including independent colleges), and affiliated hospitals such as Jinhua Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Zhejiang Normal University adheres to the direction of running schools with Chinese characteristics and the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity. Since its establishment, it has sent more than 300,000 outstanding talents of all levels and types to the society, of which 210,000 are working in the education system. Nearly half of the in-service special-grade teachers and principals of provincial key middle schools in Zhejiang Province graduated from our school. The school's undergraduate teaching performance assessment and graduates' overall satisfaction with their alma mater are firmly in the forefront of undergraduate colleges in Zhejiang Province, and the overall employment rate of graduates has remained at around 95%. There are nearly 29,000 full-time undergraduate (specialty) students (including independent colleges), 10,146 postgraduates (including 1,462 part-time postgraduates), more than 3,000 international students, and more than 14,000 students of various adult higher education. The disciplines are complete, with 69 undergraduate majors, including 34 national first-class professional construction points, 13 provincial first-class professional construction points, 11 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 1 doctoral professional degree category, 27 first-level discipline master's programs, 20 master's professional degree categories, 11 postdoctoral mobile stations, and 2 national "111 Plan" discipline innovation and intelligence introduction bases. Eight disciplines, including mathematics, chemistry, engineering, materials science, environment/ecology, computer science, zoology and botany, and general social sciences, are among the top 1% of ESI worldwide, and 15 disciplines are listed as first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province. It has 40 national courses and 4 national experimental teaching demonstration centers. The faculty structure is reasonable, with 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 academicians of the European Academy of Sciences, Ukraine, and Canada, 26 national outstanding talents, 38 provincial outstanding talents, 1 Huang Danian-style teacher team in colleges and universities across the country, 2 Huang Danian-style teacher teams in colleges and universities in Zhejiang Province, 2 members of the subject evaluation group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, 17 members of the Ministry of Education's College Teaching Steering Committee, 8 national and provincial outstanding contribution experts, 1 "Four Batches" talent of the Central Propaganda Department, 4 selected candidates of the National New Century Hundred Thousand Talents Project, 13 selected candidates of the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents Support Program, and 22 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council. The scientific research and social service capabilities have been steadily improved, and this year 6 new national teaching achievement awards have been added, including one first prize each for basic education and higher education teaching achievements. The university has won 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 34 Excellent Scientific Research Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) of the Ministry of Education, 7 Excellent Scientific Research Achievement Awards (Science and Technology) of the Ministry of Education, 8 Excellent Achievement Awards of National Education and Science Planning, 21 major bidding projects of the National Social Science Fund, 48 key projects of the National Social Science Fund, 9 key projects of the National Natural Science Fund, 1 key international (regional) cooperative research project of the National Natural Science Fund, 1 major research plan project of the National Natural Science Fund, 2 national key R&D plan projects, and 4 national key R&D plan projects. It has 46 scientific research and innovation platforms at or above the provincial level, including 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 provincial and ministerial co-constructed collaborative innovation center, 9 provincial key laboratories (engineering research centers), 4 provincial international science and technology cooperation bases, 4 provincial "2011" collaborative innovation centers, 3 provincial key research bases of philosophy and social science, 1 provincial philosophy and social science cultivation laboratory, 2 provincial new key professional think tanks, and 1 provincial new university think tank. Based in central Zhejiang, the university deepens strategic cooperation with Jinhua, and actively promotes the construction of a province that is strong through reform, innovation, opening up, and talent. International exchanges and cooperation are constantly advancing. The university has established cooperation and exchange relations with more than 280 colleges and universities or educational institutions in more than 60 countries and regions on five continents. It has established the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution focusing on education in the country, and has carried out more than 100 inter-school student exchange and learning programs with more than 70 foreign universities. The university is the executive unit of the "Education Aid Base for Foreign Countries" of the Ministry of Education, the "China-South Africa Humanities Exchange Research Center", the "African Chinese Education Practice and Research Base", and the "China-Africa University 20+20 Cooperation Plan", the "China-ASEAN Education and Training Center" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, the "China Basic Education Aid Training Base" of the Ministry of Commerce, and the "China-Africa University Alliance Exchange Mechanism Research Institute" of the China Higher Education Society. The university was selected as one of the "Top Ten Foreign Cooperation Units in Zhejiang Province", the first batch of construction units of the "Internationalized Characteristic Universities in Zhejiang Province", and the first batch of provincial international humanities exchange bases, and is the "Zhejiang Confucius Institute Teacher Selection and Training Center".
