Zhejiang Vocational College of Special Education is one of the first batch of independent institutions in China and the only public general higher vocational college in Zhejiang Province that mainly trains high-skilled talents for the disabled and professionals serving the disabled. It mainly recruits students with visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical disability, speech impairment and healthy students who are willing to serve the disabled. The school's history can be traced back to the Zhejiang Vocational and Technical School for the Disabled, which was founded in 1993. In the early days of its establishment, it mainly carried out adult education and vocational training for the disabled. In May 1998, the school began full-time secondary vocational education, filling the gap in Zhejiang Province's special education and general secondary vocational education. Since 2000, the school has successively cooperated with Zhejiang Radio and Television University, Zhejiang Education College, Zhejiang Vocational College of Art and other universities to carry out higher education for the disabled. It is an example of the implementation of higher education in schools under the National Disabled Persons' Federation system. In December 2001, Zhejiang Vocational and Technical School for the Disabled was renamed Zhejiang Huaqiang Secondary Vocational School. In April 2014, Zhejiang Vocational College of Special Education was officially established with the approval of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government and the filing of the Ministry of Education. The school is located in Hangzhou, which is known as the "paradise on earth". It has two campuses, Xiaoheshan and Tiancheng Road, with a total area of 177 acres and a total construction area of nearly 90,000 square meters. The school follows the educational concept of "integration of the disabled and the healthy, collaborative training", and has opened 13 higher vocational majors (including directions). The professional settings are aimed at cultivating high-skilled talents for the disabled and professional talents serving the disabled. Rehabilitation therapy technology (massage), e-commerce, digital media art design, arts and crafts design, traditional ethnic skills, Chinese and Western pastry crafts, tea art and tea culture, music performance and other 8 majors (including directions) are mainly focused on cultivating high-skilled talents for the disabled. Rehabilitation therapy technology, special education, special education (sign language interpretation), preschool education, smart health care services and management and other 5 majors (including directions) are mainly focused on serving the disabled. Among them, the three majors of special education, digital media art design and arts and crafts design are provincial characteristic majors, and the special education professional group has been selected as a provincial high-level professional group, becoming a leader in the construction of a high-level professional group of special education. In addition, the school has carried out joint talent training for two undergraduate majors, rehabilitation therapy and visual communication design, with two undergraduate universities, Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, respectively. It has also carried out five-year integrated training for middle and high vocational education in four majors (including directions) of Chinese and Western pastry crafts, arts and crafts design, rehabilitation therapy technology, and rehabilitation therapy technology (massage) with eight special schools and one ordinary secondary vocational school in the province, and has built a cooperative platform for resource sharing and coordinated development in terms of professional setting, curriculum connection, three-education reform and integrated construction. Up to now, the school has a total of 282 faculty and staff, including 173 full-time teachers, 34 full-time teachers with senior professional and technical positions or above, accounting for 20% of the total number of full-time teachers; there are 3,059 full-time students, including 1,510 disabled students. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has exceeded 98%, and the employment rate of disabled graduates with employment intentions has reached 100%. Disabled students studying in school and disabled people receiving vocational training are all exempt from tuition, accommodation and training fees, and also enjoy the scholarship policies of the state and the school. In recent years, the school has always adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, and aimed at "specializing and strengthening, highlighting characteristics, sharing and integrating, and striving for excellence". It has taken serving the disabled and the cause of the disabled as its purpose. Based in Zhejiang and facing the whole country, it has cultivated a large number of national self-improvement models, Olympic champions, the most beautiful Zhejiang people - Red Cross moved figures, provincial technical experts, deaf painters and other high-level skilled talents for the disabled and professional talents in the cause of the disabled, becoming a special landscape for Zhejiang to build an "important window".
