Zhejiang Tongji Vocational College of Science and Technology is a full-time public higher vocational college organized by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Water Resources. Its predecessor was the Zhejiang Hydropower Technical School established in 1959 and the Zhejiang Water Conservancy Workers Secondary Vocational School established in 1984. In 2007, Zhejiang Tongji Vocational College of Science and Technology was officially established with the approval of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government. The school is a national civilized unit, the first civilized campus in Zhejiang Province, and has been selected as a pilot unit for the modern apprenticeship system of the Ministry of Education, a national demonstration college for water conservancy vocational education, a national high-quality water conservancy higher vocational college, a training base for water conservancy technical and skilled personnel of the Ministry of Water Resources, and a construction unit of the Zhejiang Province "Double High Plan". It has made outstanding contributions to the water conservancy cause and regional economic development. The school is located on the beautiful Qiantang River, a famous historical and cultural city in China - Hangzhou. It consists of the school headquarters and the Dajiangdong campus, with a total area of 1,136.7 acres. It has teaching and scientific research equipment worth 139 million yuan and a collection of more than 1.25 million paper books and electronic books. The school currently has more than 10,000 full-time students and more than 600 faculty and staff. Among the full-time teachers, 85% have a master's degree or above, and 86% have dual-qualified teachers. The school has 20 experts who enjoy special allowances from the State Council, outstanding teachers from Zhejiang Province (Ministry of Water Resources), famous vocational teachers, and professional leaders. More than 50 provincial talents have been selected for Zhejiang Province's "151 Talent Project" and Water Conservancy's "325 Outstanding Talent Project". As the only higher vocational college of water conservancy in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, the school adheres to the school-running purpose of "based in Zhejiang, facing the whole country, keeping close to the industry, serving development, and promoting employment". In accordance with the professional development positioning of "based on water conservancy, one body and two wings", it has formed five major professional groups with large civil engineering majors as the main body and water conservancy as the feature, deepening the integration of production and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and vocational and general integration, promoting the Chinese-style apprenticeship system, carrying out integrated talent training for secondary and higher vocational education, helping to build a modern vocational education system, and cultivating high-quality technical and skilled talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. There are 8 teaching units including Water Conservancy Engineering College, Construction Engineering College, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, Economics and Information College, Art and Design College, General Education College, Marxism College, and Continuing Education College (Zhejiang Water Conservancy and Hydropower Cadre School), offering 26 majors including Water Conservancy Engineering, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Engineering Cost, Power Plant and Power System, Environmental Art Design, and Financial Technology Application. The school implements various school-running measures in accordance with the latest requirements of the state for vocational education, and the level of talent training and social services is constantly improving. There are currently 2 majors supported by the central government, 2 key majors in the National Higher Vocational Innovation and Development Action Plan, 2 high-level professional groups in Zhejiang Province, 10 construction projects of advantageous and characteristic majors in Zhejiang Province's higher vocational colleges, and 11 construction projects of high-quality, demonstration, and key majors in national water conservancy vocational education. There are 34 national and provincial quality online development courses and national professional teaching resource library courses, 71 national planning textbooks, provincial and ministerial key textbooks and planning textbooks, 1 national teacher teaching innovation team, 1 provincial teacher teaching innovation team, 1 water conservancy vocational education teacher teaching innovation team, and 15 provincial and ministerial teaching achievement awards. The school focuses on the cultivation of high-skilled talents, has 22 on-campus training bases, 292 closely connected off-campus internship bases, and took the lead in establishing the Yangtze River Delta Green Ecological Integrated Development Industry-Education Alliance and the Zhejiang Water Conservancy Industry Public Training Base; as a pilot unit of the Ministry of Education's modern apprenticeship system, it has a modern apprenticeship college "Dayu College" and actively explores the Chinese-style apprenticeship system; it has carried out the Ministry of Education's "1+X Certificate" system pilot, with 43 vocational skill level certificate test sites; it is the first batch of provincial social evaluation organizations, providing services for industry training and certification. The school is qualified to recruit foreign students and has established good cooperative relations with schools, industry enterprises and social organizations in more than 10 countries and regions. It has carried out cooperative education in water conservancy engineering and construction engineering technology with Saint Martin's University in the United States, and cooperated with Bates Technical College in the United States to carry out mechatronics. It has been selected as a pilot institution for the Sino-German Advanced Vocational Education (SGAVE) cooperation project of the Ministry of Education and a pilot institution for the Sino-German "dual system" reform in Zhejiang Province; as a member unit of the International Small Hydropower Federation, it carries out various vocational and technical training in countries along the "Belt and Road", participates in the development of occupational standards in many African countries, and jointly builds a hydropower station operation and maintenance talent training base with the Renewable Energy Technology Agency of Pakistan to serve China's hydropower going global and international capacity cooperation to create an international hydropower technical and skilled talent training base. The school won the "National Outstanding Contribution Award for Skilled Talent Cultivation" in 2008, was named a national advanced collective in water conservancy vocational education in 2011, was recognized as a continuing education base for professional and technical personnel in Zhejiang Province by the Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security in 2014, and was identified as a national high-skilled talent training base in the water conservancy industry by the Ministry of Water Resources in 2016. In 2021, it was selected as a training base for water conservancy technical and skilled talents by the Ministry of Water Resources. In 2022, it was approved as a Zhejiang Provincial Demonstration Employee Training Base, Demonstration Continuing Education (Social Training) Base and Community Education Demonstration Base. The school adheres to the school motto of "Houde, Duxue, Xiu Neng" and continues to deepen the construction of a civilized campus. With the "great man culture" of the Zhou Enlai class and Deng Yingchao class as the carrier and the "water control culture" of "inheriting Dayu's ambition and passing on the spirit of water control" as the core, it creates a first-class education brand for vocational education. As the director unit, it takes the lead in establishing the National Water Conservancy Industry Steering Committee's Course Ideological and Political Special Committee to cultivate the campus cultural spirit and lead the harmonious development of the school. Looking into the future, the school will follow the major decision-making and deployment of the Provincial Party Committee to “innovate, deepen reform, tackle tough problems, open up and upgrade”, further emancipate the mind, concentrate efforts, seize opportunities, innovate, and promote a new round of leapfrog development in various undertakings, striving to build a first-class domestic, industry-leading, high-level vocational college with distinctive water conservancy characteristics.
