Zhejiang University of Technology is the first provincial and ministerial co-constructed university in the eastern coastal area, the first batch of national "Higher Education Innovation Capacity Enhancement Plan" (2011 Plan) Collaborative Innovation Center leading university and the first batch of key construction universities in Zhejiang Province. It is located in Hangzhou, a famous historical and cultural city and scenic tourist destination in China. The school was founded in 1953. Its predecessor can be traced back to the Zhejiang Secondary Industrial School founded in 1910. It has gone through the development stages of Hangzhou Chemical Industry School, Zhejiang Chemical College, Zhejiang Chemical Institute and Zhejiang Institute of Technology. It was renamed Zhejiang University of Technology in 1993. During his tenure as the head of Zhejiang, General Secretary Xi Jinping instructed the university to "actively give play to its own disciplinary advantages and talent and intellectual advantages, and strive to build the university into a training base for all kinds of outstanding talents and a research and development base for engineering science and technology, so as to accelerate the comprehensive construction of a well-off society in Zhejiang and basically realize modernization ahead of schedule and make new and greater contributions." The university bears in mind the instructions of General Secretary Xi, insists on the construction of first-class disciplines as the main line, takes "based in Zhejiang, serving the region, going to the whole country, and connecting with the world" as the school-running purpose, highlights the school-running characteristics of "running schools with the spirit of Zhejiang and interacting with regional development", adheres to the school motto of "virtue and health", promotes the spiritual tradition of "hard work, pioneering and innovation, and striving for excellence", the teaching style of "dedication and dedication" and the style of study of "taking essence and using it", and strives to cultivate first-class talents, produce first-class results, and actively serve the national and regional economic and social development. The university has three campuses, Chaohui, Pingfeng and Moganshan, covering an area of 3,333 acres, with 26 secondary colleges and 1 department, and an independent college, Zhijiang College. There are 21,053 full-time undergraduate students, 15,468 postgraduate students and 1,158 international students. There are 3,378 faculty members, including 2,488 full-time teachers, including 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 12 Zhejiang Provincial Special Experts, 3 Distinguished Professors of the Yangtze River Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education, 7 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 15 leading talents of the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 3 national teaching masters, 5 Young Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education, 15 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 4 young top talents of the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 10 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the national level, and 11 selected candidates of the "Hundred Thousand Talents Project" of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The school adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating people with morality and cultivating people, takes top innovative talents as the guide, senior application-oriented talents as the main body, and compound talents as the feature, and vigorously cultivates industry elites and leading talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor, and rich in patriotism, international vision, innovative spirit and practical ability. Since its establishment, the university has trained and supplied more than 300,000 outstanding talents of various types for the country. There are 63 undergraduate majors, covering 12 categories including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, art, and interdisciplinary disciplines. It has 13 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization categories, 30 first-level master's degree authorization points, 3 second-level master's degree authorization points not covered by the first-level discipline, 22 master's professional degree authorization categories, and 13 postdoctoral mobile stations. Nine disciplines including chemistry, engineering, materials science, environmental science and ecology, agricultural science, biology and biochemistry, computer science, pharmacology and toxicology, and general social sciences have entered the top 1% of the global ESI, of which chemistry and engineering have entered the top 1‰ of the global ESI. The school insists on serving the major needs of national and regional development as its mission, and strives to strengthen the strategic layout of the government-industry-university-research-application cooperation network. There are 10 national scientific research platforms and 69 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms. The university has won more than 800 scientific research achievements at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, including 24 national science and technology awards, ranking among the top 40 universities in China; and 11 awards for outstanding achievements in humanities and social sciences from the Ministry of Education. The university ranks 30th in the national university science and technology innovation rankings and is among the top 400 in the world in the Academic Ranking of World Universities by Soft Science. In the past three years, the university has published 5 papers in Science, Nature and Cell as the first unit/corresponding unit; the total number of China Patent Gold Award and Excellence Award ranks 6th among universities in China; and it ranks 7th in the patent transfer rankings of Chinese universities. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, 13 new key projects of the National Key R&D Program, 48 first prizes in provincial and ministerial science and technology, 10 first prizes in provincial humanities and social sciences outstanding achievements, and 47 major horizontal projects with a contract amount of more than 10 million yuan have been added. In 2022, the university received 1.107 billion yuan in scientific research funds. The university has established comprehensive cooperation or scientific and technological cooperation relations with more than 60 cities, counties (districts) inside and outside the province, and has served more than 6,600 enterprises and institutions. Zhejiang University of Technology is now in its 70s and is still young and youthful. It is committed to the future and innovation. Today, Zhejiang University of Technology adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly implements the instructions and requirements of General Secretary Xi Jinping during his tenure as the head of Zhejiang, fully implements the fundamental task of cultivating morality and educating people, and accelerates the construction of a first-class research university with distinctive regional characteristics.
