Zhejiang Wanli University is a provincial general undergraduate university with a 74-year history. It has gone through the Zhejiang Agricultural University Ningbo Branch and Zhejiang Rural Technical Normal College. In 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to become a new type of university that "implements a new management model and operating mechanism for public universities", and was praised by education experts as "a model practice of the modern university system with Chinese characteristics". In 2004, the first Sino-foreign cooperative university in China, Ningbo University of Nottingham, was jointly founded with the University of Nottingham in the UK. In 2005, it passed the undergraduate teaching work level assessment of the Ministry of Education with excellent results. In 2011, it was approved as a pilot unit for master's professional degree graduate education and became the chairman unit of the pilot unit alliance. In 2015, it became a "Zhejiang Province Application-oriented Construction Pilot Demonstration School"; in 2017, it became a "National Demonstration University for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform"; in 2018, Zhejiang Wanli College Overseas Campus was established in Hamburg, Germany; in 2021, it became a master's degree awarding unit; in 2022, "upgraded university" was included in the Zhejiang Province's "14th Five-Year Plan" higher education institution establishment plan, and the school was approved as a "doctoral degree awarding project construction unit". The school is located in Ningbo, with a construction area of 650,000 square meters, and has Qianhu, Huilong, Ninghai, Gaoxin, and overseas campuses. The campus has beautiful scenery and complete teaching facilities. It has won provincial honorary titles such as "civilized campus", "safe campus", "green school", and "public security demonstration unit". After 24 years of innovation, the university has become an applied university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines including literature, economics, management, law, art, science, engineering, agriculture and medicine. It currently has 13 secondary colleges, including the School of Business, School of Logistics and E-commerce, School of Law, School of Culture and Communication, School of Foreign Languages, School of Design, Art and Architecture, School of Biology and Environment, School of Big Data and Software Engineering, School of Information and Intelligent Engineering, Sino-German School of Design and Communication, Huamei Life and Health College, International College, and School of Continuing Education, 56 majors, 3 master's degree awarding points, and more than 20,000 full-time undergraduate, graduate and international students. The school currently has more than 1,500 faculty and staff, with nearly 600 teachers with senior professional titles, including top and excellent talents such as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (dual appointment), academicians of the Russian Academy of Engineering and the Academy of Natural Sciences, winners of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Young Scientist Fund Project, experts with special allowances from the State Council, and young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Zhejiang Province; it has a national teaching team and a team of scientists in the industrial technology system of the Ministry of Agriculture; it has emerged advanced models such as national model teachers, national outstanding teachers, national outstanding science and technology commissioners, and national college ideological and political theory teaching experts. There are 3 national engineering professional degree graduate online (demonstration) courses and 4 provincial graduate joint training bases; the pass rate of Zhejiang Province's master's degree theses sampling inspection has been 100% in the past three years. In the past five years, a number of original achievements have been produced in the field of disciplinary advantages, 4 papers have been published in the top international academic journals "Science" and "Nature", 3 scientific and technological innovation achievements have been selected into the Zhejiang Innovation Hall, and 33 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards have been won. In the past two years, the school's international competitiveness has ranked 37th in the "China Public University International Competitiveness Ranking". The school has established inter-school cooperation with more than 80 colleges and universities in more than 30 countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has opened up various types of international exchange and learning programs for students, such as exchange students, overseas study, 2+2 dual degrees, and undergraduate and master studies. Nearly 500 students go to cooperative colleges for study and exchange every year. In 2023, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the "Zhejiang Wanli University German Brand University of Applied Sciences Joint College" will be established in cooperation with the German Brand University of Applied Sciences, adopting the "4+0" training model and awarding dual degrees from the two Chinese and German schools.
