Zhejiang Water Resources and Hydropower College is the only engineering application-oriented undergraduate college with water resources and hydropower as its characteristics in Zhejiang Province, the only college jointly established by the Ministry of Water Resources and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, and the only "double civilization" college awarded "National Civilized Unit" and "National Civilized Campus". The school was born, developed and named because of water. Its predecessor can be traced back to Hangzhou Hydropower School in 1953, Hangzhou Water Resources School of Zhejiang Province in 1956 and Zhejiang Electric Power College in 1958. It has gone through the development stages of Zhejiang Water Resources and Hydropower School, Zhejiang Water Resources and Hydropower School, Zhejiang Water Resources and Hydropower College and Zhejiang Water Resources and Hydropower College. Generations of water conservancy people have passed on the torch and continued to sing, cultivating a large number of application-oriented talents for the development of local economy and water conservancy. In January 2004, Comrade Xi Jinping, then Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, gave important instructions to our school in his congratulatory letter to the school on its 50th anniversary to "build a high-quality and distinctive water resources and hydropower school". The school bears in mind the earnest instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, upholds the school motto of "being knowledgeable and realistic", practices the spirit of "self-reliance, pragmatism, morality and truth-seeking", and insists on planning and layout with "high quality and characteristics" to continue to struggle. The school has two campuses in Hangzhou Qiantang and Huzhou Nanxun, covering an area of 2,501.7 acres and a total construction area of 732,400 square meters; the Qiantang campus covers an area of 1,230.7 acres and a construction area of 300,000 square meters, and the Nanxun campus covers an area of 1,271 acres and a construction area of 432,400 square meters. The school currently has 14,691 full-time students, including 12,801 undergraduates, 1,890 junior college students, preparatory students, and international students. There are 944 faculty members and 669 full-time teachers, of which 34% are teachers with senior professional titles and 92% are teachers with master's degrees or above. There are nearly 50 people, including recipients of the State Council Special Allowance, National Model Teachers and Zhejiang Province May 1st Labor Medal, Zhejiang Province Propaganda and Culture System "Five Ones" Talents, Provincial "151 Talents", Provincial Teaching Masters, Provincial First-Class Discipline Leaders, Provincial Middle-aged and Young Discipline Leaders, Provincial University Leaders and Foreign Experts. The school fully implements the fundamental task of cultivating people with morality. Adhere to the application-oriented school-running orientation, adhere to the talent training concept of "combining theory and practice, educating people through practice", take deepening the integration of production and education as the main line, and strive to cultivate industry backbones and leading talents with "international vision, patriotism, water conservancy spirit, and practical ability". After 70 years of construction and development, with engineering as the main body and water conservancy and hydropower as the characteristics, the discipline and professional system of coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, science, management, economics and literature is becoming more and more perfect. There are 13 teaching units and 7 research institutes, offering 40 majors, including 34 undergraduate majors. There are 12 national first-class majors and provincial first-class majors, 1 provincial advantage major, and 7 provincial characteristic majors. Two majors have passed the engineering education professional certification of the Ministry of Education, and the professional quality is essentially equivalent to the international one. The engineering cost major ranks 32nd in the country and 1st in Zhejiang Province in the 2022 Soft Science China University Major Ranking. It has 1 national first-class undergraduate course, 7 national high-quality resource sharing courses, 111 provincial first-class courses, and 2 provincial course ideological and political teaching teams. As the first completing unit, it won 15 items including the second prize of national teaching achievements and the first and second prizes of Zhejiang Province teaching achievements. It has 5 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. The school bravely undertakes the mission of scientific and technological innovation and service. Adhere to the discipline construction as the leader, focus on the characteristic directions of "water conservancy +" and "+ water conservancy", vigorously cultivate the characteristics and advantages of disciplines, and promote the cross-disciplinary integration. There are 6 provincial "13th Five-Year Plan" first-class discipline construction projects and 4 provincial "14th Five-Year Plan" first-class discipline construction projects. Since the upgrade to undergraduate, more than 130 national and provincial and ministerial projects have been approved; nearly 30 awards have been won, including the Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology Popularization Award of the Ministry of Water Resources, the provincial and ministerial science and technology award, the Zhejiang Water Conservancy Science and Technology Innovation Award, and the Zhejiang Social Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award. More than 1,500 intellectual property rights have been authorized. More than 1,000 horizontal service projects have been undertaken, and the total funding for scientific research and technology services is nearly 200 million yuan. It has a national vocational skills appraisal institute and is a designated training institution for the water conservancy industry. It has the first river (lake) chief college in the country, which is an important base for serving the national water management work. It has the country's first provincial engineering research center for digital twin basin technology and equipment, the "Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Research Center for Digital Twin Basin Technology and Equipment", and 8 provincial scientific research platforms such as the "Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Key Technologies for Allocation and Regulation of Rural Water Conservancy and Hydropower Resources". The school was also rated as a "National Typical Case of Water-Saving Universities". The school is committed to the inheritance and innovation of water culture. Adhere to the mission of excavating, researching and inheriting water culture, and strive to create a highland for the education and communication of the water conservancy spirit and Zhejiang water culture in the new era. It has important platforms such as the National Water Conditions Education Base, the Demonstration Base for the Inheritance of the Academic Style of Water Conservancy Scientists, the Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance Teaching Base (Water Culture), the Zhejiang Water Culture Research and Education Center, and the Zhejiang New University Think Tank. It has carried out three major projects of water culture education, water culture communication, and water culture research, and has built a characteristic education system of "educating people with water and educating people with culture". It is one of the universities in the country that systematically carries out water culture education. In recent years, it has undertaken nearly 100 water culture projects of various types, published more than 30 water culture books, and won more than 10 awards of various types, contributing to the development of Zhejiang's water conservancy cause and the construction of a culturally strong province. The school deepens international cooperation and exchanges. Adhere to the policy of open education, actively serve the "Belt and Road" initiative, cooperate with institutions such as the United Nations International Small Hydropower Center, and continuously contribute China's water management wisdom and water management solutions; cooperate with high-level organizations in the world, and is a member of the World Water Council. The school has established good relations with universities in more than ten countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, South Korea, and Belarus, and promoted academic and scientific research cooperation and joint training of undergraduates and masters. It has been approved as a pilot unit for the "junior-to-undergraduate" talent training of foreign students by the Ministry of Education, and the number of international students has grown steadily. It has cooperated with the Belarusian State Technical University to organize the major of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, and jointly built the "Zhejiang Water Conservancy Institute-Belarusian State Technical University Surface Engineering R&D Center" and the "Zhejiang-Belarus Water Conservancy and Hydropower Safety Monitoring Intelligent Equipment and System Joint Laboratory". The industrial robot base and elevator base were selected as the Ministry of Education's future international training base for technical skills and cultural exchange talents. It actively promotes overseas education, builds the "Silk Road College" in Malaysia, and jointly builds the "Head of State-level" national foreign aid project "Kyrgyzstan Lu Ban Workshop" with the China Education International Exchange Association, Zhejiang Transportation Vocational and Technical College, and Kyrgyzstan National Technical University. The training of applied talents has yielded fruitful results. In 2017, the school was approved as a bachelor's degree awarding unit and a national water situation education base, and established the first river chief college in the country. In 2019, it was listed as a pilot demonstration college for applied construction in Zhejiang Province, approved as a Zhejiang Province classroom teaching innovation school, and passed the undergraduate teaching work qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education with high quality. In 2020, it was listed as a training base for water conservancy engineering construction and management talents of the Ministry of Water Resources. In 2023, it was approved as a construction unit for the Zhejiang Province Master's Degree Award. Students have won a large number of national and provincial awards in various disciplines and sports competitions, ranking among the best in similar colleges. The initial employment rate of graduates has been stable at around 95% for a long time, and they are generally recognized and widely praised by the society for "quick start and strong stamina". A large number of industry leaders have emerged among the alumni of the past, and many have become leaders and backbones of water conservancy and power system management departments or enterprises. The Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security have respectively awarded our school the "Outstanding Contribution Award for the Cultivation of Skilled Talents in the National Water Conservancy Industry" and the "Outstanding Contribution Award for the Cultivation of Skilled Talents in the National Water Conservancy Industry". The school is known as the cradle of Zhejiang water conservancy and hydropower talent training. The tide rises on the bank of Qiantang River, and the wind rises on the shore of Taihu Lake.
