Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages is a full-time general undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. The school is located in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, one of the first historical and cultural cities in China, a famous Jiangnan water town, and the hometown of Lu Xun. It was founded in 1981 and upgraded to an undergraduate college in 2008. In 2015, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it was listed as a master's degree granting project construction unit by the Zhejiang Provincial Degree Committee. There are two campuses, Jishan and Jinghu, covering an area of nearly 1,600 acres and a campus building area of nearly 470,000 square meters. The library has rich collection resources, with nearly 2.22 million Chinese and foreign paper books (including nearly 210,000 original foreign paper books), more than 1.39 million electronic books, more than 100,000 electronic journals, and 52 databases. There are 14 secondary colleges, including the School of English, the School of Oriental Languages, the School of Western Languages, the School of International Business, the School of Digital Trade, the School of Network Communication, the School of Chinese Language and Culture, the School of Hotel Management, the School of Data Science and Communication of Eastern Polytechnic (Sino-foreign cooperation), the School of Applied Foreign Languages, the School of Arts, the School of Marxism, the School of International Student Education, and the School of Continuing Education. Enrolling students from 20 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) across the country, there are more than 17,000 full-time students. Currently, there are 51 undergraduate majors, including 17 foreign languages such as English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Czech, Turkish, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, Persian, Hindi, etc., covering 6 major disciplines such as literature, economics, management, art, engineering, and education. The school actively practices the "student-centered" education concept. Through the effective integration of professional teaching and foreign language teaching, theoretical teaching and practical teaching, local teaching and overseas teaching, it highlights the characteristics of foreign language +, application-oriented, and international talent training, and has formed talent training models such as "English + Minor (Micro Major)", "Minor Language + English + Minor (Micro Major)", "Non-common Language Double Foreign Language + Minor (Micro Major)", "Non-foreign language major + English (or minor language) + Minor (Micro Major)". It is currently the university with the most foreign languages and distinctive highlights in Zhejiang Province. The school attaches great importance to the construction of disciplines and majors, and has formed a discipline and major layout with foreign languages as the feature, literature as the main body, economics and management as the two wings, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. Foreign languages and literature is a first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province, and four disciplines including foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, French language and literature, Chinese language and literature, and Japanese language and literature are key disciplines in Shaoxing City. According to Wu Shulian's Ranking of Subjects of Private Universities in China, our school's literature discipline has been ranked first among private universities in China for many years, and economics, management and other disciplines have been among the top 20 private universities in China for many years. Four majors, including translation, Chinese international education, Japanese and Korean, are "national first-class undergraduate major construction points", and 10 majors, including French, Korean, Japanese, editing and publishing, international business, hotel management, translation, Chinese international education, Russian, international economics and trade, are "provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points"; 8 majors, including Korean, English, French, communication, international economics and trade, translation, hotel management, and international business, are provincial advantage (characteristic) majors; English, business English, Spanish, and e-commerce majors are key majors in Shaoxing City; 2 courses have been approved as national first-class undergraduate courses. There are more than 1,000 faculty members, of which more than 47% are teachers with senior professional titles and more than 27% are teachers with doctoral degrees. There are nearly 100 foreign teachers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, Japan and other countries. In the ranking of the internationalization level of Zhejiang universities released by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, the school ranked first in the "overall internationalization level of non-master and doctoral universities in the province" for 6 years. At present, it has cooperated with more than 180 universities and educational institutions in more than 30 countries and regions, and sends more than 700 students abroad each year for long-term and short-term language and cultural exchanges, and carries out undergraduate double degree, undergraduate and master's degree programs and other study abroad programs.
