Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College was founded in 1951. It offered undergraduate education from 1958 to 1963. In 1994, it was one of the first batch of higher vocational education in the country. In 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to become a full-time general college. It is the only public rail transit vocational college in Henan Province and the first independent higher vocational college in the national railway system. It is a national backbone vocational college, a national high-quality vocational college, and a national "double high plan" construction unit. The school is located in the central urban area of Zhengzhou, an important transportation hub of China's railways and the political, economic and cultural center of Henan Province. The new campus is located in Zhengdong New District, which has a superior geographical location and broad development prospects. It covers a total area of 1.3546 million square meters and a building area of 770,900 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 1.537 billion yuan, of which the total value of fixed assets of teaching instruments and equipment is 463 million yuan, and the library has a collection of 2.2855 million books. The university has 16 teaching colleges (departments) and 6 colleges. The university has coordinated development of 64 majors in 9 categories, including transportation, medicine and health, electronic information, finance and trade, civil engineering, equipment manufacturing, culture and art, tourism, and food and medicine, forming a professional layout for the three major industries of rail transportation, medicine and health, and electronic information. The university recruits students from all over the country, with more than 23,000 full-time students. There are more than 1,500 faculty members, 32.17% of whom are associate senior or above full-time teachers, and 78.83% are doctors and masters. The school was selected as a typical case of the construction of the "double-qualified" teaching team in national vocational colleges; it won the first batch of national Huang Danian team (one of the 10 higher vocational colleges in the country), the national vocational education teacher teaching innovation team and other national teaching teams, 9 provincial teaching teams, 3 provincial "double-qualified" famous teacher studios, 2 provincial teacher skills inheritance and innovation platforms, 2 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 2 national outstanding teachers, 2 national technical experts, 3 provincial vocational education experts, Central Plains Talent Plan-3 Central Plains teaching masters, 4 provincial famous teachers, 12 provincial civilized teachers, 12 provincial famous teacher training targets, 21 provincial backbone teachers, 1 provincial academic and technical leader, 1 May 1st Labor Medal, 1 provincial outstanding teacher, 1 model teacher, and 28 academic and technical leaders of the Provincial Department of Education. The school insists on developing the school through science and technology, and establishes a collaborative innovation mechanism with key enterprises, well-known universities, and research institutes, and its scientific research and innovation capabilities are constantly enhanced. Since 2018, the school has been approved as a National Natural Science Foundation supporting unit, hosted two National Natural Science Foundation projects, won three Henan Science and Technology Progress Awards, and won 296 department-level scientific research awards, including 37 Henan Provincial Department of Education Science and Technology Achievement Awards, 14 Henan Education Science Research Outstanding Achievement Awards, and Henan Education Informatization Outstanding Achievement Awards 70. Published 643 high-level papers such as SCI, EI, and Chinese Core. There are 740 national valid patents. The number of invention patents authorized in 2021 ranked fourth among higher vocational colleges in the country, sixth in 2022, and fifth in 2023. The school has built a school-enterprise production, learning, research and innovation platform to accelerate the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements. There is currently the first dam road engineering "hospital" higher vocational branch in the country-Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College Branch, which has cooperated with the UK Skills Center for Excellence (UKSCE) and the UK National Railway Skills Research Institute (NSAR) to establish the "China-UK Rail Transit Research Institute". It has 9 provincial scientific research platforms, including Henan High-speed Railway Operation and Maintenance Engineering Research Center, Henan Rail Transit Intelligent Safety Engineering Technology Research Center, Henan Railway Food Safety Management Engineering Technology Research Center, Henan Natural Medicine Extraction and Medical Technology Application Engineering Research Center, Henan Smart Elderly Care Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, Henan Smart Education and Intelligent Technology Application Engineering Technology Research Center, Henan Smart Education Engineering Research Center, Henan Safety Demanding System Human-Machine Intelligent Interaction Engineering Technology Research Center, Henan Rail Transit Nondestructive Testing Technology and Equipment Engineering Research Center, etc., and has co-built 11 R&D centers with enterprises above the designated size to provide technical support for serving the high-quality development of the local economy. The school has always implemented the party's education policy, adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, implemented the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people, adhered to the core cultural concept of "family and country, railway soul, craftsmanship, and rejuvenation dream", and focused on strengthening connotation construction, constantly improving the education mechanism of combining morality and skills, and combining work and study, deepening the integration of production and education, and school-enterprise cooperation, creating a talent training model that connects professional settings with industrial needs, course content with professional standards, and teaching processes with production processes, and the strength and level of school-running are constantly improving.
