Zhongyuan Institute of Science and Technology is a full-time public welfare undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and with the right to confer bachelor's degrees. Its predecessor was the Xinlian College of Henan Normal University established in 2003. In February 2021, the Ministry of Education approved its transfer to Zhongyuan Institute of Science and Technology. The school currently has two campuses in Zhengzhou and Xuchang, covering an area of 3,504 acres, with 22,619 full-time students. Eight majors, including radio and television editing and directing, material forming and control engineering, preschool education, and musicology, were identified as "branded major construction sites for private universities in Henan Province". Ten majors, including mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, civil engineering, industrial design, and business English, have been identified as subject-major funding projects for private colleges and universities in Henan Province. 18 courses, including "Mechanical Design", "Logo Design", and "Ergonomics", have been identified as provincial first-class undergraduate courses. Nine courses, including "Sixteen Lectures on Chinese Language and Culture", "Principles of Management", and "Thirty Lectures on the Basics of Modern Chinese", have been approved as provincial-level boutique online open courses. Several projects, including the compilation of the textbook "Basic Engineering", won the Henan Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award. In 2022, students won a total of 278 awards in off-campus subject competitions, including 74 national and 204 provincial awards. It has won the first prize in the group in the National "Higher Education Cup" College Students Advanced Drawing Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Competition for four consecutive times, and is the only private university in the country to have won this honor. The Journal of Zhongyuan University of Science and Technology "Applied Technology Research" won the "Top Ten Journals" in the country.
