Located in the world-famous historical and cultural city of "Red Holy Land, the Most Beautiful Zunyi", Zunyi Normal University is an institution with a century-old teaching history. Its predecessor was the Zunyi Primary Normal School founded in 1907. In 1936, it was renamed "Provincial Zunyi Normal School". In 1958, Zunyi Normal College was established. In 2001, it was upgraded to Zunyi Normal University and started undergraduate education. In 2007, it passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education with good results. In 2011, the school was rated as a "National Civilized Unit". In the same year, it was approved as a Demonstration Base for Red Classic Art Education by the Ministry of Education. In 2013, it was awarded the Ministry of Education's Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences—Revolutionary Spirit and Cultural Resources Research Center of the Communist Party of China. In 2014, it became "The First Batch of Characteristic Cultural Schools in Guizhou Province". In 2019, it became the leading university in Guizhou Province for the Ministry of Education's "One Province, One Policy Ideological and Political Course" collective action. It is the first local university to have a provincial key Marxist college. In 2021, it was approved as the Ministry of Education's "National College Graduate Employment Ability Training Base". In 2022, it was selected as the ninth batch of "National Demonstration Units for National Unity and Progress". The school covers an area of more than 2,100 acres, and has completed the construction of nearly 1,000 acres in the north area (1,100 acres in the south area is under planning and construction), with a total construction area of 900,000 square meters. There are 18 colleges (teaching departments), 51 general undergraduate majors, covering 9 major disciplines such as liberal arts, science, engineering, management, and agriculture. It recruits students from 25 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, with 14,851 full-time students, and recruits international students from 10 countries including Laos, Vietnam, Russia, and Kazakhstan, with 56 registered international students; the school currently has a total of 1,120 faculty and staff, including 239 doctors, 530 masters, 170 senior professors, 8 third-level professors, 391 associate professors, 1 person enjoying the State Council subsidy, 3 people enjoying the provincial government subsidy, 2 provincial experts, and 9 municipal experts. The school currently has a total of 16 disciplines, including 1 first-class construction discipline in Guizhou Province, 1 provincial characteristic key discipline, 5 provincial key disciplines, and 6 provincial key support disciplines. There are 5 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 12 provincial first-class professional construction sites; 1 national first-class undergraduate course, 41 provincial "gold courses"; 1 provincial first-class teaching team, 12 provincial and ministerial teaching platforms, and 1 provincial first-class teaching management team. There is 1 key research base for humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 1 red classic art education demonstration base of the Ministry of Education, 1 "National Family Education Innovation Practice Base" of the All-China Women's Federation and the Ministry of Education, 3 humanities and social sciences research bases of provincial colleges and universities, 2 humanities and social sciences demonstration bases of the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, 1 provincial top ten innovation team of philosophy and social sciences, 2 academic pioneers of the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, 3 provincial science and technology innovation talent teams, 6 innovation teams of the Provincial Department of Education, 8 innovation groups of the Provincial Department of Education, 5 industry-university-research bases of the Provincial Department of Education, 3 provincial 2011 collaborative innovation centers, 1 provincial makerspace, 7 provincial college characteristic key laboratories, 5 provincial college engineering research centers, and 1 provincial academician workstation. After a century of development, the school has formed the school motto of "cultivating people with virtue and applying learning to practice", the school spirit of "following the truth and morality, cultivating morality and encouraging learning", the teaching style of "paying equal attention to morality and practice, and being both moral and knowledgeable", and the style of study of "striving hard and thinking, seeking knowledge and truth". With the mission of "being based in the local area and serving the grassroots", the school has cultivated a large number of excellent primary and secondary school teachers who are rooted in the local area and face the grassroots, as well as high-quality talents serving the local economy and society.
