VSB-Technical University of Ostrava is a public technical university located in Ostrava, Czech Republic. History
The school was founded in 1849 as a mining vocational school in Pribram, Czech Republic, with the aim of training professionals for the region's growing mining industry.
In 1865, the school was renamed Pribram Mining Academy.
In 1904, it was upgraded to a fully-fledged university.
In 1918 The declaration of independence of Czechoslovakia in 1945 and the introduction of Czech language teaching a year later had an important impact on the further development of the school.
In 1945, the school moved to Ostrava and was expanded in 1952, adding new faculties such as engineering, economics and information technology.
In 1994, it was officially renamed VSB-Technical University of Ostrava.
