The school was founded in 1886 and was originally named Königliche See Dampf-Maschinisten Schule (Royal Navy Steam Mechanic School), until 1975, the school mainly trained marine engineers and officers. In the past 30 years, its study programs have been continuously expanded to add all major engineering and information technology disciplines as well as a business administration school.
