Introduction

The University of Bayreuth is a modern public university in Bayreuth, Bavaria, Germany. It features interdisciplinary research and teaching and offers a number of undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs.

History

Founding background: On November 5, 1969, the Bayreuth City Council requested the establishment of a university in the city because the city was located near the border with the Democratic Republic of Germany and Czechoslovakia and faced economic stagnation and population outflow. In order to improve the regional structure and ensure living conditions, it was requested.

Preparation and construction: On March 19, 1970, the University Association was established. On July 16, 1970, the Bavarian State Parliament decided to locate the next Bavarian State University in Bayreuth. In 1971, the Science Committee recommended that the university be included in the measures of the Act for the Promotion of Higher Education Construction. On January 1, 1972, the Bavarian State Parliament officially established the University of Bayreuth.

Development history: On November 27, 1975, the University of Bayreuth officially opened, initially offering diploma courses in biology and mathematics.
