Introduction

The University of Münster, full name Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, is one of the largest and most famous public universities in Germany. The university established the Faculty of Law in 1774 and started medical courses. In 1780, it officially enrolled students as a university. In 1902, the Prussian Parliament decided to open a new law school in Münster. In the same year, German Emperor Wilhelm II upgraded the University of Münster to a comprehensive university and personally granted it its current name on August 22, 1907: Westphalia-Wilhelm-Münster University.
