The university was established in 1976. It initially had four colleges: agriculture, engineering, education and electronic engineering, with about 956 students and 214 faculty and staff. As time went by, the school continued to grow and develop. After the independence of the Sadat City Branch, it became Sadat City University. Currently, the school headquarters has 13 colleges and one research institute.
