Introduction and Overview
The British University in Egypt is a private university located in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. It is famous for its excellent education and sound academic governance. It is one of the few higher education institutions in Egypt that offers "double degrees".
History and Establishment
In 1998, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Egyptian and British governments to establish a university that can train graduates who meet British standards for key sectors of the Egyptian economy. In 2004, with the strong support of the British Embassy and the British Council, Egypt issued a presidential decree to establish the British University in Egypt. In September 2005, the school welcomed the first batch of only 200 undergraduates. On March 22, 2006, King Charles III of the United Kingdom and Susanna Mubarak, the first lady of Egypt, officially unveiled the school.
