The Couragh Plain, where Couragh Camp is located, has always been an important military assembly point in history. As early as 1599, during the Elizabethan War, Henry Harvey praised it as an excellent place to deploy troops.
In 1783, during the war between Britain and the United States, the volunteers who were called to assist in the national defense were reviewed here, attracting more than 50,000 spectators.
