Introduction to St. Petersburg State University for Culture and Arts
The St. Petersburg State University for Culture and Arts is the first higher education institution in Russia engaged in education and research in the field of culture and art. It is also the most important cultural and artistic research and teaching base in the former Soviet Union. It is now directly under the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
Overview
The school offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees, 10 departments, 3 teaching centers and 39 teaching and research offices. Since 2011, it has been reorganized into 26 undergraduate majors and 24 graduate majors and two professional education departments. There are more than 500 full-time teachers and more than 14,000 students, including more than 70 former Soviet and Russian meritorious artists.
History and establishment time
On November 28, 1918, the People's Commissar of Education Lunacharsky and the Adult Education Committee signed a decree to decide on its establishment. On December 20, the first teacher-student meeting was held at 35 Nadezhkinsky Street and classes began.
