History of the school
The school was founded in 1947 and was originally named the Mexican Baptist Training School. It has undergone several name changes. In 1982, it merged with the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and was renamed the Spanish Baptist Theological Seminary. After separating from the seminary in 1989, it was renamed the Spanish Baptist Theological Seminary in 1999 and finally named Baptist University of the Americas in 2003.

Nature: It is a four-year private Baptist university.
Scale: The campus area is 92 acres and the student population is small. In 2014, there were 215 students, including 175 undergraduates.

Degree programs: Accredited to provide bachelor's degrees and associate degree majors, such as Associate of Arts in Intercultural Studies, Bible/ Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature, Bachelor of Arts in Business Leadership, Bachelor of Arts in Music, and Bachelor of Arts in Human Behavior.
Featured Courses: The school has three specialized research institutes, including the Baptist Bible Institute, which provides low-cost training for local church leaders, future pastors, etc.; the Christian Islamic Studies Institute, which helps Christians serve Muslims and provides related professional directions in the Bible Studies degree; and the Latino Leadership Institute, which provides training for Hispanic Christian female leaders.
Language of Instruction and Student Group
Language of Instruction: From 1947 to 2000, the school's main language of instruction was Spanish. After 2000, it was changed to English. This change enabled it to recruit more students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, such as African Americans, Anglos, Koreans, Dutch, Hungarians, Japanese, Turks, Indians, and students from African and non-Spanish-speaking Latin American countries.
Student Composition: Students come from all over the United States and more than a dozen Latin American countries.
School Accreditation
The school is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education and is affiliated with Texas A&M University - The business branch maintains a transfer agreement.
