History of the school

The school was founded in 1947 and was originally named the Mexican Baptist Training School. It has undergone several name changes. In 1982, it merged with the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and was renamed the Spanish Baptist Theological Seminary. After separating from the seminary in 1989, it was renamed the Spanish Baptist Theological Seminary in 1999 and finally named Baptist University of the Americas in 2003.

Scale: The campus area is 92 acres and the student population is small. In 2014, there were 215 students, including 175 undergraduates.

Language of Instruction and Student Group

Language of Instruction: From 1947 to 2000, the school's main language of instruction was Spanish. After 2000, it was changed to English. This change enabled it to recruit more students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, such as African Americans, Anglos, Koreans, Dutch, Hungarians, Japanese, Turks, Indians, and students from African and non-Spanish-speaking Latin American countries.

Student Composition: Students come from all over the United States and more than a dozen Latin American countries.
