Introduction and Overview: Barton College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Wilson, North Carolina, United States. The college consists of seven schools and two departments, providing education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, covering a wide range of professional fields, with a total student body of approximately 1,265 (fall 2022).
History:
In 1901, the North Carolina Christian Missionary Conference purchased Golden West Seminary.
On May 1, 1902, the college was established as Atlantic Christian College.
On September 6, 1990, the school was renamed Barton College in honor of Barton Warren Stone, one of the founders of Christianity (Disciples of Christ), who was very active in eastern North Carolina. In the fall of the same year, Barton College opened the East Carolina Barton Weekend Academy through its Lifelong Learning Division.
Strength of running a school: The college has seven colleges and two departments, offering more than 40 academic majors, covering arts, science, business, education, nursing and other fields. The college focuses on practical teaching, providing students with abundant internship, practice and research opportunities to help students improve their professional skills and practical ability.
