Introduction and Overview: Barton College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Wilson, North Carolina, United States. History:

In 1901, the North Carolina Christian Missionary Conference purchased Golden West Seminary.

On May 1, 1902, the college was established as Atlantic Christian College.

On September 6, 1990, the school was renamed Barton College in honor of Barton Warren Stone, one of the founders of Christianity (Disciples of Christ), who was very active in eastern North Carolina. In the fall of the same year, Barton College opened the East Carolina Barton Weekend Academy through its Lifelong Learning Division.
