History

The university was formerly the University of Paris, which is one of the oldest universities in Europe and has a history of teaching dating back to the mid-12th century. After the student movement in 1968, the French government reorganized the University of Paris and established 13 independent universities including the University on March 21, 1970. The Henri Mondor facility of the medical school was first built in 1969, and the law school and business school were built in La Varenne-Saint-Hilaire in 1970. In 1988, technical centers were established in Senard and Fontainebleau. In 2005, the law school moved from Saint-Maur to Creteil, and in 2021, the Institute of International Political Studies was established in Fontainebleau.
