Introduction
The University of Reunion Island is a public comprehensive university located on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. Its predecessor was the University Center of Reunion Island, which was established in 1970 and renamed the University of Reunion Island in 1982. It is the only French university in the Indian Ocean region and an important educational demonstration window for Europe in the Indian Ocean.

The University Center of Reunion Island was established in 1970, including three teaching and research units: Law-Economics, Literature and Science. In 1982, the University of Reunion was formally established and renamed as the University of Reunion. Then, in 2005, the fourth college, the "College of Human and Environmental Sciences", was established. In 2010, the "College of Health" was established.
