Introduction
Université de Toulouse 1, also known as Toulouse Capitole University, is a public research university located in Toulouse, southwestern France. It is the second oldest university in France and one of the oldest universities in Europe. Its teaching covers law, politics, economics, management, information technology and other fields.

The university was founded in 1229 and originally included four faculties: theology, canon law, civil law and art (grammar). The medical school was founded in 1257. During the French Revolution, the university was closed in 1793 and was later rebuilt. In 1970, the University of Toulouse was reclassified into the University of Toulouse I, the University of Toulouse II and the University of Toulouse III, with the University of Toulouse I focusing mainly on social sciences, including disciplines such as law, economics and management. In September 2009, the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Toulouse I was renamed the University of Toulouse I Capitole.
