Introduction

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands and the largest comprehensive university in the Netherlands. It is located in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, and is a world-class top research university.

History

Establishment time: Its predecessor, the Athenaeum Illustre, was founded in 1632, and at that time it mainly trained students in trade and philosophy.

Important development stage: In 1877, it was renamed the Municipal University of Amsterdam, and students were able to obtain doctoral degrees in Amsterdam for the first time. In 1960, after the passage of the University Education Ordinance in the Netherlands, the University of Amsterdam gained property autonomy and became a truly national university.

Key laboratories and disciplines

Key laboratories: It has a number of advanced scientific research laboratories and research centers, such as the Amsterdam Asia Research Center, the Urban Issues Research Center, and the Life Sciences Research Center.
