The Chinese People's Liberation Army Army Engineering University was established in 2017 based on the PLA University of Science and Technology, the Ordnance Engineering College, Chongqing Communications College, Engineering Corps College, and Wuhan Ordnance Officer School. It is a comprehensive engineering university that emphasizes both talent training and scientific research, and integrates engineering technology with combat command. The school is located in Nanjing, Jiangsu, an ancient capital of the Six Dynasties, on the bank of the Yangtze River and a gathering place of humanities. It has five internal colleges, including the Communications Engineering College, Field Engineering College, Command and Control Engineering College, National Defense Engineering College, and Graduate School. It also has a Shijiazhuang campus (Shijiazhuang, Hebei), a Communications Officer School (Chongqing), an Ordnance Officer School (Wuhan, Hubei), and a training base (Xuzhou, Jiangsu). Historical Background The history of each unit of the university can be traced back to the Red Army Radio Training Class founded in Ningdu, Jiangxi from the 1930s to the 1950s, the Engineering Department of Harbin Military Engineering Institute founded in Harbin, Heilongjiang, the "Ordnance Cadre Training Team" founded in Zhucheng, Shandong, the "Second Field Army University" founded in Nanjing, Jiangsu and the Northeast Democratic Alliance Army Engineering School founded in Tonghua, Jilin. In different periods, they have trained a large number of backbones and forces for the modernization of our army. The training tasks are mainly the higher education of military officers, postgraduate education, vocational and technical education for non-commissioned officers, and education for foreign military students, covering junior college, undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels. It mainly undertakes the professional fields of army information assurance, engineering troops, equipment assurance, electronic countermeasures, network attack and defense, unmanned combat, big data and other new combat force talent training tasks, as well as the undergraduate basic education tasks of aviation pilots and aviation maintenance officers. It offers 47 undergraduate majors (including 7 civil defense undergraduate majors) such as communication engineering, command information system engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, weapon systems and engineering, radar engineering, missile engineering, and unmanned system engineering, and the total training scale ranks first in the whole army. At the discipline level, a comprehensive discipline and professional system with information technology as the leading factor, military engineering technology as the main body, and coordinated development of science, engineering, military management and multiple disciplines has been established. There are currently 6 national key disciplines, 6 key disciplines and majors for the military in the "13th Five-Year Plan", and 12 provincial key disciplines in the "13th Five-Year Plan". It has 14 postdoctoral research mobile stations, 12 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 19 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 8 master's professional degree authorization categories. Many disciplines ranked among the top in the country in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation. The evaluation results of information and communication engineering and civil engineering were A-level. The engineering and computer science disciplines were among the top 1% of the ESI global top disciplines. The faculty has a teaching and research echelon led by academicians, with both doctoral and professional qualifications, excellent quality and reasonable structure. Among them, there is 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 4 national outstanding teachers, 6 national outstanding scientific and technological workers, 6 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the country, 6 winners of the "Qiushi Award", 10 candidates for the National "Hundreds of Millions" Project, 3 people in the New Century Excellent Talent Support Program of the Ministry of Education, 1 person in the Yangtze River Scholars Award Program, 3 winners of the National Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Youth and Excellent Youth Science Fund Award, and 3 winners of the China Youth Science and Technology Award. Academician Qian Qihu won the 2018 National Highest Science and Technology Award and was cordially received by national leaders. In the past 10 years, the school has been awarded the titles of "Excellent Teaching Unit of Military Colleges", "Advanced College for Teaching of Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics", "Advanced College for Teaching Political Theory Courses in the Army", and "Advanced College for Ideological and Political Education of Students in the Army". The school has won 4 first prizes, 14 second prizes at the national level, and 44 first prizes at the military level for its teaching achievements. Adhering to the battlefield and serving the troops, the school has undertaken a large number of major scientific research and strategic engineering construction tasks for the country and the army, and has won more than 2,600 national and military (provincial and ministerial) science and technology awards, including 1 National Highest Science and Technology Award, 1 National Science and Technology Progress Special Award, 8 first prizes, 42 second prizes, 1 National Science Conference Award, 4 second prizes for National Technological Inventions, and more than 170 first prizes for military-level science and technology progress. In the past three years, students have won 47 international awards, more than 1,000 national awards, and more than 1,300 provincial (ministerial, military) awards. Open education has built 13 joint teaching and training bases in typical troops in the fields of information assurance, engineering troops, and equipment assurance, and has organized 13 consecutive "Jingwu" military project competitions; established strategic cooperative relations with nearly 20 local universities, research institutes, and military industrial enterprises such as Peking University and Xugong Group, and deeply promoted the integration of military and civilian education; established inter-school cooperation with 14 foreign military schools such as the United States West Point Military Academy and the Royal Military Academy of the United Kingdom, trained nearly 6,000 foreign military students for more than 90 countries, selected more than 210 students to visit foreign military academies and participate in international military competitions, and held 7 consecutive Army International Student Weeks to promote teaching and training reforms and improve the quality of schooling.
