The university was established in 1947 and was originally a secondary agricultural school opened in Roermond on October 13, 1947. It continued to develop and evolve. In 1962, the Royal Dutch Farmers and Gardeners Association was formed in 's-Hertogenbosch, North Brabant, and later changed its name to HAS University of Applied Sciences.
