History

The origins of the school can be traced back to the first half of the 19th century, when Luxembourg had an urgent need to train professionals such as engineers and accountants with the birth of industrial and financial institutions.

The Higher and Secondary Education Act of July 23, 1848 created an industrial school for young people in the fields of art, industry and commerce within the Athénée School of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, while the gymnasium continued to provide a humanistic education based on the study of ancient languages ​​until the law of March 28, 1892 separated the industrial school from the gymnasium and placed it under special management, which is the Lycée de Garçons de Luxembourg. The birth of the predecessor of "Ecole Commerciale et Industrielle".

In September 1908, the school moved to the red brick building designed by architect Gustave Celta on Auguste Laurent Square, which is the current site of the school.

In 1940, the Nazi occupiers began to demolish the school and replaced it with a "gymnasium" high school. It was not until 1945 that the school was renamed "Lycée de Garçons de Luxembourg" and resumed traditional teaching. The diplomas it issued can lead to universities around the world.

On May 10, 1968, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg implemented coeducation. Although the school is no longer a boys-only school, it still retains its original name.
