In 1946, Alcan established the Industrial Research Center (CEI) in Geneva. In 1956, Nestlé established the Institute of Enterprise Management Methods (IMEDE) in Lausanne. In 1981, CEI was officially renamed the International Management Institute (IMI). In 1990, IMI and IMEDE merged to form the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland.
