The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, referred to as "UCAS", is an innovative university with the integration of science and education as its school-running model, graduate education as its main body, and elite undergraduate education as its school-running feature. The graduate education of UCAS originated from the talent training of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1950, the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched the recruitment and training of research interns. In June 1951, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education jointly issued the "Regulations on the Recruitment of Research Interns and Graduate Students in the Research Institutions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Research Departments of Universities under the Ministry of Education in the Summer of 1951". In August 1955, the "Provisional Regulations on Graduate Students of the Chinese Academy of Sciences" was issued and implemented after being signed by Premier Zhou Enlai. In September 1964, the Chinese Academy of Sciences tried to run the "Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences" in Beijing. In 1977, the Chinese Academy of Sciences took the lead in resuming graduate student enrollment. In order to meet the needs of various research institutes to recruit and train graduate students, the Graduate School of the University of Science and Technology of China was established in Beijing. In 1978, the first batch of graduate students after the resumption of enrollment enrolled. In 1982, the Party Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences approved the use of the two names of "Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences" and "Graduate School of the University of Science and Technology of China" by the Graduate School. In December 2000, the school was renamed the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2005, the Management Cadre College of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was merged into the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In June 2012, the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was renamed the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and began to recruit undergraduate students in 2014, forming a higher education system covering undergraduate, master and doctoral levels.
