History

On February 19, 1907, its predecessor, Moscow Business School, was officially awarded the title of university and became the first economic university in Russia.

In 1919, it was nationalized and merged with the Social Business School and renamed "Moscow National Economic Institute named after Karl Marx". In 1924, it was renamed "Marx and Engels Institute" and then changed to "Plekhanov National Economic Institute".

On August 13, 1991 On July 17, 2010, the Russian Federation Cabinet ordered the Plekhanov Academy of National Economy to be awarded the title of Academy of Sciences and renamed it the Russian Plekhanov Academy of Economics. On July 17, 2010, it was granted university status and on August 26, 2010, it was officially renamed the Russian Plekhanov University of Economics.

From 2012 to 2015, the Russian Federation Ministry of Education and Science successively merged the Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Information, Saratov State University of Social and Economics and Russian State University of Economics and Trade into the Russian Plekhanov University of Economics.
