History and establishment time

The history of the University of Parma can be traced back to 1064, making it one of the oldest universities in Italy. Between the 10th and 11th centuries, Parma had established a well-established institution with an outstanding law faculty. In 1412, the university was reopened by Niccolò III d'Este, but was closed again in 1420. In 1601, Ranuccio I Farnese reopened the university again and obtained a papal bull. In 1859, the University of Parma carried out a large-scale reorganization of disciplines and institutions, laying the foundation for modern academic development.
